Sally 4th got quite a response about their clear acrylic bases. They’ve got several more sizes available over in their webshop.

What is the deal with all the clear bases lately?

I know not everyone enjoys basing minis but come-on.

Funny thing is that in my old age and lack of time I have been considering these, huh…

I think the pre-printed maps and things like terra clips and battle systems are probably playing a large part of this. If done right, they can add a cinematic quality when paired with the more immersive terrain.

Personally, I’ve been getting more into “correct” scale miniatures and away from GW and company with their tendency to supersize everything. I would prefer thinner bases so the scale of the people matches that of the vehicles more accurately. The 1/4″ thickness or so of most bases makes models taller than I would like so when standing next to correctly proportioned vehicles and scenery it still looks a little off.

We talked about that recently. We have figured that with the popularity of the mouse pad material printed gaming mats that cover up to a 4×6 table now, that the clear bases are becoming more popular as a by product.

Does anyone sell these or a similar product in the States? I would like to purchase, but I would also like to avoid high shipping charges.

Litko is made in the USA and as far as I know offers some clear acrylics.

I actually bought some from Broken Egg Games after seeing their proxy bases sets. (I use them for flying models in several games I play). Perhaps an old GW learned habit! 🙂 Anyway just shoot them an email or give them a call.
