We are excited to announce the release of Through the Breach.
Through the Breach is a tabletop roleplaying game set in the world of Malifaux. Players take on the roles of various citizens, such as Gunfighters, Drudges, Dabblers, and Entertainers. Each of these characters is as unique as the players themselves. These are the Fated. As a Fated, you know your future, it has been told to you, as cryptic as the sparrow on a moonless night. It is your task to rush headlong into the arms of destiny, or to carve your own future. One player takes on the role of the Fatemaster. It is his duty to craft the legends of the other players, to narrate the story of Malifaux in his own vision, and to move each Fated along towards the moment when they must choose between their fortune and their soul. Today on Orcs in the Webbe we take a look at the latest issue of Wyrd Games’ Malifaux magazine, Chronicles, and give it the Written Matters treatment.
Written Matters is a series of short reviews that I started on OITW back in 2008 to let readers know what is in a given publication and if there’s anything of particular note that I feel might be of use to its readers. Back then it was anything of a vaguely Blackpowder / Alternative Historical bent but now the readership of OITW has expanded so has my mini review.
When it rains .. it pours .. and then the tsunami hits and the shark-nado comes along just to join in on the fun and mayhem.
Needless to say we have encountered large delays on our end causing an interruption of product and information to our customers, distributors and the stores they work with. We unfortunately have run into more than our fair share of issues that are out of our control but we are doing everything we can to mitigate the damages for all. The latest snafu has been our very large, fast, and sadly, expensive, shrink wrap machine has died a horrible death and finding competent techs was surprisingly difficult.
In the mean time, we will be working the team over the weekend to make certain that the new releases below are ready to start sending out early Monday morning and we’ll be pulling long hours to make certain all distributor orders are fulfilled as quickly as possible. Because of the delay we are lifting the street date and these are to be treated as release upon receipt of product. Those furthest out for delivery time will be shipped first so that the product arrives more or less at the same time.
Please once again accept our apologies for these delays as well as delay in communication. We’re now off to batten down for the upcoming kraken attack that someone must have inevitably released …
Explore. Build. Conquer. Rule. Those are the words to live by in the new kingdom building game, Kings of Artifice. Players take on the role of kings, each trying to found a new kingdom in an ever-crowding piece of land. Throughout the game, players will be summoning new units and constructing different walls and structures. Does Kings of Artifice build up to an exciting game, or does it deserve the wrecking ball? Read on to find out!
Kings of Artifice is an area control and action point game for 2-4 players that plays in about 60 minutes. Kings of Artifice plays best with any amount of players.
Welcome to the public Avatar beta test! Included in this file is the avatar upgrade for each master in the game. Have a look, try them out, and give us feedback in the playtest forum. We will update these cards based on your feedback, and a new version of the file will be posted every Tuesday between 4 and 6pm PST. The rules for avatar upgrades are on pages 56-57 of the big rulebook, so please read them carefully.
We will also be playtesting some new generic upgrades for each faction, but those will not be available until next week. This playtest will continue until late April.
Enjoy, and thank you for helping shape this great game!
The public beta for Wave 2 is over and all of the cards are available for free download from our site! Wave 2 includes models from Rising Powers, Twisting Fates, and Storm of Shadows. So, if you were unable to find rules for your favorite models in the second edition book, they’ll be available here.
These PDFs are final, official, and tournament legal. They are only missing the art, and arsenal decks will be on their way for wave 2 later this year. The only models missing from wave 2 are the avatars, and an open beta test for the avatars is starting this week!
I had the pleasure of playing Malifaux 2E yesterday, and without writing a full review of that (don’t worry; it’s on the way), I’m happy to report that the game was a blast! I had already painted a Seamus Crew from the previous edition of the game, and I wanted to paint something new for my gang. Seamus, Avatar of Dread had been sitting in my bin of miniatures waiting for some brush love, so I pulled him out of the box and set to work.
Kings of Artifice is a competitive, Euro-style game. In Artifice, the player must grow and defend their kingdom with many different types of followers, each with unique abilities and each capable of building different types of structures, from houses, to walls, to a palace. The King is central to the game, directing Villagers, Horses, a Knight, Thief, Artisan, and Warlock to build the most impressive kingdom. Together, they bring the player deep into Artifice with a complete experience that allows different paths to victory depending on the values of the player and the actions of their opponents. Much of this also reflects our background in miniature games, where the player is also given a selection of tools, and it’s up to them to figure out how they want to use them to achieve victory.

Starting with this issue, we are expanding our content. From now on, the chronicles will be covering news and reviews from other avenues in the gaming industry, we won’t solely be covering Wyrd products. Don’t worry, we will have as much (or more) Malifaux/Wyrd content as ever before, we will simply be adding some reviews and articles to broaden our perspective a bit. For more information on why we did this, see the introduction in Wyrd Chronicles 8.
With the Halloween and Harvest season right around the corner, it is once again time to kick things off with our most popular painting contest, The Rotten Harvest!

Wyrd Miniatures has launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to fund Jetpack Unicorn, their new party game.
From the campaign:
Once upon a time, YouTube vloggers Kristina Horner and Joe Homes decided to collaborate by making videos asking each other to choose between the weirdest hypothetical situations we could come up with, in the fashion of standard either-or storytelling. They went online to find some inspiration, and, shockingly, were met with an alarmingly large amount of terrible and bland questions. They took it upon themselves to craft much more interesting and intelligent questions, and had so much fun doing so that they decided they had to find a way to share them with the world. Already being game enthusiasts, it seemed only natural to try to turn this pastime into a party game.
Clash For A Cure is coming and they’ll have special guest studio painter Meg Maples there.
From the announcement:
Hello guys! Trying to spread some awareness for Clash for a Cure 2013! This is our third year of operation and we are trying to make it bigger and better than before! Clash for a Cure is a 3 day event taking place in Waco Texas using the Warmachine/Hordes and Malifaux rulesets. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
At present there are six tournaments over the three day weekend. On top of that we will also be having a Charity Raffle. The charity raffle includes painters from around the world painting up models to be raffled off to some lucky participants. For the second year, we will also be hosting The Cog, a steampunk based painting competition. Helping us judge entries will be the award winning artist Meg Maples! That’s right, one of the studio painters for Privateer Press will be in attendance and has even agreed to raffle off a couple one-on-one painting classes to support the cause! Check out the Facebook page or our website at www.clashforacure.org. Give us a like and share it to your friends, it’s a great cause to be behind!
