D&D Icons of the Realms: Monster Menagerie II Coming Next Year

On the 17th, we’ll be having the next session of the D&D group that I’m running. Nobody died last session (character or player, thankfully), but it did get kinda nasty for a while. I’m a big proponent of using miniatures for our gaming sessions, but I’m always a little bummed when I don’t have exactly the miniature I’d need for a particular encounter. That’s why I’m always happy to see that new minis sets are coming out. And while they won’t be out for the December session, the Icons of the Realms: Monster Menagerie II set might be out in time for our January game.

Places by the Way Module Series for 5th Edition Up On Kickstarter

It’s one thing to get a one-shot module to augment your D&D game. It’s another to get a group of them that you can sprinkle throughout a larger campaign, creating effectively a “B-story” for everything else that might be going on. That’s just what the Places by the Way module set looks to create. It’s up on Kickstarter now.

Of Drow Origin RPG Module Up On Kickstarter

Under our feet, deep below the surface is a whole other world. A dark world of winding corridors, terrible monsters, and sudden death. It’s also the home of the Drow, the subterranean elves that are a lot of what can cause that “sudden death” I mentioned. Of Drow Origin is a new Drow-centered module, compatible with 5th Edition, that’s currently up on Kickstarter.

Sunken Temple Adventure Module Up On Kickstarter

It’s probably not a good sign when a temple that’s not been seen for millennia resurfaces. It’s even worse when monsters start coming out of it. But hey, there might be treasure in there! And, you know, you should probably do something about those monsters. Maybe find out why the temple’s back and make sure it’s not going to destroy the world or something. But really, it’s about the possible treasure. Sunken Temple is a new multi-system RPG adventure that’s up on Kickstarter now.

Friday Snippets

How’s everyone doing today? Ready for the weekend? I think I’m gonna keep mine rather chill, just putting together the last of my friend’s Guild Ball stuff. They’re already assembled. They just need greenstuff work done on ’em (filling in some small gaps, filling in the base slots, stuff like that). Other than that… not much. Plan for Thanksgiving, I guess.

But as for right now, it’s time to nosh on some bite-sized gaming stories.

Today we have: New D&D Icons of the Realms Miniatures Starter Set Now Available, Steamforged Previews Steamcon/Black Friday Sale, Confrontation Evolution Fan-Made Rules Posted, Wamp releases Master of Roots Bust, Ever wonder what Kriegsspiel Dice looked like?, Super Chibi Round 2 – Reboot Late Pledges now open, Final Days for Portable Paint Station On Kickstarter, New Numidian Infantry Available From Victrix, Spot It! Dobble Coming Next Year, New Releases Available From Hitech Miniatures, German Language Version of Thunderbirds Board Game Up On Spiele-Offensive, and Kromlech New Release: Human Skulls.

Plight of the Tuatha Module Series Up On Kickstarter

I’ve got a 5th Edition game that’s starting up this weekend. I’ve actually not played anything in 5th Edition yet, so it’s been a bit of a learning experience. I have a ton of 3.5 Edition material, but converting it, myself, to 5th is a bit of a pain and a chore. Thankfully, there are people out there more than willing to do that sort of thing for you. For example, the Plight of the Tautha module series has been updated to 5th edition. It’s also up on Kickstarter now.

Icons of the Realms: Storm King’s Thunder Figures Now Available

I’m in the process of getting together a new Dungeons & Dragons group. It’s been about 6 months since I last played, and that’s just too damn long. Hopefully we’ll be getting characters together next month and starting playing shortly thereafter. Now, every group I’ve played with has enjoyed using miniatures to represent our characters as well as the enemies we fight. It’s sometimes hard to find just the right mini. Well, WizKids is giving us some more options with the release of their Icons of the Realms: Storm King’s Thunder set of Dungeons & Dragons minis. They’re available now.

World of Aetaltis RPG Setting Up On Kickstarter

With the latest edition of Dungeons & Dragons, many groups are forming up to get their RPG-self on. But where will you set your game? Coming up with a world entirely on your own can be rough. Thankfully, there’s world guides out there that can give you all the information you need about a setting. If you want one that evokes classic fantasy like that found in Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms, you should check out World of Aetaltis, up on Kickstarter now.

Gale Force Nine Previews Frost Giant Model

Gale Force Nine has a preview up of a new model they’ve been working on that’s part of their Dungeons & Dragons line. Just as the cool mornings here are a preview of the cold to come, so is this preview of a Frost Giant a look at the icy death that is sure to come to your party (that sounded a lot cooler (no pun intended) in my head).

Slaughter at Splinterfang Gorge Adventure Up On Kickstarter

The Var’Lande used to be a very nice elven thorp. However, it would seem as though some goblins have come marauding through there. The citizens have been slain. Some of the children have even been carted off. That would be horrible enough, warranting some adventurers to go avenge the slain and release the children. However, to add to it all, the goblins are looking to raise an ancient evil during the Garnet Gales Aurora. That you’ll definitely want to stop. That’s the story behind Slaughter at Splinterfang Gorge, a new adventure up on Kickstarter for Pathfinder and 5th Ed.

WizKids Announce Rock Paper Wizard Card Game

Pretty much everyone knows Rock, Paper, Scissors. Some even know the extended version with Lizard and Spock thrown in. So a game where certain hand gestures are required shouldn’t be anything new to people. WizKids is getting themselves in on the action with Rock Paper Wizard, a new card game in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast.

Hunters Mark RPG Book Up On Kickstarter

Are you the type of RPG player (the video-game kind) that loves to make your way away from the main storyline in order to go find the big, bad monsters that are almost invariably lurking around? Do you love to go and find those super-tough monsters and take them out with a party of fellow hunters? Do you like to test your limits against the most deadly creatures in all the land? If so, then this book might just be for you. It’s called Hunters Mark and it’s up on Kickstarter now.

The Domes of Ishaq-Zahur RPG Adventure Up On Kickstarter

I’ve said it countless times before and I’m sure will say it many more times in the future: there’s no such thing as too many resources for GMs to draw from for their games. Sometimes that comes from new world books. Sometimes that comes from new monster compilations. Sometimes that comes from full adventures. The Domes of Ishaq-Zahur is the last type. It’s a classic-gaming-inspired adventure that’s statted out for Pathfinder or 5th Edition. It’s also up on Kickstarter now.

Rogue’s Field Guide and other Pathfinder RPG supplements from Rogue Robot Studios Up On Kickstarter

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: There’s no such thing as too many resources for your RPG games. Well, the folks over at Rogue Robot Studios is looking to bring you plenty of more material with the release of at least three books that are compatible with Pathfinder/5th Edition. You don’t have to be playing a Rogue to get a bunch of useful information out of them.

Dungeons & Dragons Teams Up With Roll20

There are lots of things that can keep a gaming group from actually getting a session in. For the longest time, “distance” was a big one. Well, with virtual tabletops becoming a much more regular thing, that’s not a factor. One of the most well-known virtual tabletops is Roll20. Well, they’ve teamed up with Wizards of the Coast to now officially bring Dungeons & Dragons adventures to the program.

Interjection Games Launches Strange Magic 2 Kickstarter

As we all know by now, I feel that you can never have too many options when it comes to your RPG. You should be able to create the character you want when playing, and having more resources to help make that character a reality is good. That’s why Interjection Games made their Strange Magic supplement. It was a success and so they’re following it up with Strange Magic 2, up now on Kickstarter.

Ponyfinder – Dawn of the Fifth Age Up On Kickstarter

I have a young niece. As such, when I visited my parent’s place a couple weeks ago, and my sister brought her kids over (I also have a young nephew), I was exposed to various children’s television shows I might not have otherwise been inclined to see. One was something about friends being magical, or somesuch. I didn’t catch the full title. Anyway, while I’m not getting the series on DVD anytime soon, I did see where the appeal could come from, and where horses of all types are making their way back into the forefront of popular culture. As such, Ponyfinder, the RPG, is looking to expand to the most popular RPG system, with their Ponyfinder – Dawn of the Fifth Age Kickstarter campaign.

Saturday! Glorious Saturday!
As you read this, I’m at a library that a friend works at. They’re having their first Board Game Day and so I’m playing some board games. Actually, there’s a very high likelihood that I’m playing Guild Ball, which isn’t really a board game, but it’s still alright.

Anyway, while I’m doing that, I’ve also got some review articles for you.

Godsfall Worldbook for 5e Up On Kickstarter

The gods of old didn’t really get along. One would say the other’s toga looked wrinkled, or that their laurel wreath was browning, or their mother’s recipe for ambrosia tarts was better. And then all hell broke loose… Or, I guess it was “all heavens broke loose” as the gods went to war. As various gods died, and the battles were fought, magic (both arcane and divine) were stripped from the world, and various places were simply blasted into oblivion. The war has ended, and humanity is still picking up the pieces. But a god can’t really die. Not fully. And the power they used is seeking new vessels. That’s where you come in. That’s also the story behind Godsfall. There’s a Kickstarter campaign running to bring the setting to 5e.

Podcast Roundup

Monday is gone. Tuesday is here. I’m working on still recovering a bit from the CMON Expo. Though last night I got a wild notion to make 2 batches of double-chocolate cookies and then make homemade raspberry sauce and attempt my first batch of homemade caramel. Because… *shrugs a lot*

When I have culinary projects I’m working on, I’ll often have gaming stuff going on as well, mixing my two pastimes together. Well, now we’ve got our podcast roundup so if you’re even just boiling water for Ramen (which was dinner yesterday), you can still get some gaming-time in (of sorts).

Wizards of the Coast Posts Magic: The Gathering/Dungeons & Dungeons Crossover pdf

The first game I ever picked up was Magic: The Gathering. Back at the time, the only card games I’d known of were Gin Rummy and Poker. So the idea of a game where you can build your own deck just sounded weird. But like most, I soon learned exactly what that all meant and it opened up a whole world of hobby gaming for me. That world, of course, included Dungeons & Dragons. But my first game and my most-played RPG remained separate. And that way they remained for decades. That is, until now, with Wizards of the Coast posting a Magic: The Gathering/Dungeons & Dragons crossover pdf.

Forged in Magic: Reforged Up On Kickstarter

As I’ve mentioned many times before, variety is the spice of life and there is no such thing as having too many options for your RPGs. Whether you and your group decide to use things exactly as they’re written in a book, or they use what’s written as a starting point for something more-specific to what you’ve got going in your game, there’s nothing like a big book of options to bring some new life to a game. And that’s just what you get with Forged in Magic: Reforged. It’s got over 400 new pieces of gear for your 5th Edition games.
