New Fantasy Miniatures Set Released And Another Announced From WizKids

Well, WizKids just has a corner market on fantasy miniatures, don’t they? Ask anyone what the two biggest fantasy RPGs are out there and you’ll more-than-likely get Pathfinder and Dungeons & Dragons as the answers. Well, WizKids has a new set of Pathfinder miniatures available and they’ve just announced a new set of Dungeons & Dragons figures.

Midweek Snippets

The work week marches on (as Glenn Miller – American Patrol plays on Pandora). We’re halfway there, beautiful watchers. We’ve made it to Wednesday. Let’s keep on keepin’ on and make our way to the rest of the week. However, a quick bite would be good. Oh, look, some bite-sized gaming stories for you. How convenient.

Fifth Edition Urban Fantasy Races Guide Now Available

While a lot of us might think of dark forests and faraway dungeons when we think of a Fantasy RPG world, there’s plenty that can go on in an urban environment. It doesn’t take a sci-fi game to have your characters skulking around a bustling metropolis, looking for whatever horrible things might be going on that they can make right. Well, DMs should make an effort to fix that and bring more campaigns to an urban setting. And Aegis Studios is here to help with their Urban Fantasy Races Guide.

Dice Masters: Faerun Under Siege Now Available From WizKids

Super heroes might not be for everybody, and that’s just fine. Nobody’s going to force you to like them. Perhaps fantasy settings are more your thing. That’s cool. And if you like dice games and fantasy settings, you’ll want to see what’s in store for you in this story. And by “in store” I mean that literally as well as figuratively, since the Faerun Under Siege set for Dice Masters is now available.

Psionics In This Issue of Unearthed Arcana

“You can accomplish whatever you put your mind to” holds a bit of extra meaning for you psionics-players out there. Different from magic, psionics allows characters to use the “power of positive thinking” in order to change the world around them. In this installment of Unearthed Arcana, Wizards of the Coast expands on the Psionics class.

Sunday Snippets

Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!
… is what day it is.
At least for me as I’m typing this, anyway.

But “fun with time zones” will have to wait, because right now we’ve got a couple of bite-sized stories to give you in our Sunday Snippets feature. So let’s get to it.

Today we have: Age of Tyrants Funds, Khurasan releases 1980s Motor Rifles support weapons, Another World Miniatures Releases Selene Redux Mini, Hero Lab Launches D&D 5th Edition SRD, and Polyversal Kickstarter now EU Friendly.

The manic situation that is Monday has progressed into the calmer, more gentle Tuesday (or at least, I hope it’s more gentle for you). The rest of the work week is ahead and you could use some help getting through it. And if you’re tired of listening to your co-worker’s pop music, grab your headphones and listen to some gaming podcasts.

Troll Lord Games Launches 5e Familiars Kickstarter

Are you familiar with familiars? If you’ve played a magic-user in a D&D game before, you probably are. My favorite familiar was a shocker lizard named Bitey. He was the familiar of a lightning mage I used to play back in the day. Good times. Now, obviously, a shocker lizard isn’t among the “standard set” of familiars. And this was back in 3.5th edition. Well, now Troll Lord Games is helping to expand your Familiar options in 5th edition with their new book up on Kickstarter. Continue reading

Dungeons & Dragons Returns to Ravenloft

Bleh! Bleh! I vant to suck your blooood! Bleh! Bleh!
Even if you’ve not played there, or even played Dungeons & Dragons at all, if you’ve been around geeks and geek culture, you know the names Ravenloft and Strahd. They’ve become part of the general lexicon, a bit of knowledge just about every gamer picks up at some point in time or another. Well, a new Dungeons & Dragons adventure has been announced for 5th Edition. It’s the Curse of Strahd, and you might want to be thinking about getting a better gorget.

Wizards of the Coast Opens Up the D&D Adventurers League

Well, we’ve got the Dungeon Masters Guild. So it seems as though all the players have also unionized and become the D&D Adventurers League (whether or not they’re extraordinary gentlemen is up to the individual). This is much like the Dungeon Masters Guild, but for players. Obviously, you’re not going to be posting adventures, but you can post the details of your heroes you play.

Wizards of the Coast Launches Dungeon Masters Guild

Those of you that are DMs out there, how many of you have created your own dungeon or adventure or encounters? *raises hand* You’re certainly not alone. A quick look around at someplace like Kickstarter shows that lots of people have had that idea. Many of us set our adventures in the Forgotten Realms, one of the most popular Dungeons & Dragons settings. Well, have you ever wanted to try and sell your adventure? Wizards of the Coast is here to help you do so, if you want.

Scarred Lands RPG Setting Up On Kickstarter

Games almost eventually will end up getting a new edition. One of the consequences of that is that side supplemental items might not be able to be used anymore. Scarred Lands was originally created for 3rd Edition D&D, but obviously the game has moved forward since then. Well, now the folks at Nocturnal Media are looking to make an updated version of Scarred Lands for 5th Edition as well as for Pathfinder.

New Updated Kits for Fighters and Bards for Dungeons & Dragons

It’s time for another Unearthed Arcana article from Wizards of the Coast. That’s where they take some rules they’re planning on implementing and sort of put them out there for the masses to check out. This one’s bringing a bit of nostalgia back to the game in the form of Kits.

Wizards of the Coast posts Errata for Monster Manual and Dungeon Master’s Guide

Here I am, back in the office and looking to catch back up on a few stories from the past week. There’s not too many, since most companies were (and many still are) on holiday. But that’s not to say you shouldn’t come see what we’ve got today. For example, Wizards of the Coast has posted up Errata for both the Monster Manual and the Dungeon Master’s Guide (obviously for Dungeons & Dragons).

Wizards of the Coast Posts This Month’s Unearthed Arcana

Every month, Unearthed Arcana gives players a chance to add some variety to their campaigns in a semi-official way. The rules aren’t officially-official until they’re later published, which most of them will be, but in the meantime, you can use them for your games. Besides, as I’ve said before, all RPG material is *pirate voice* more like guidelines, anyway */pirate voice* to begin with.

Knights of the Green Flame is now available

Having extra adventure modules around is a good thing for a DM to have. Even if you don’t run them exactly as-written (to me, every RPG book and supplement is *pirate voice* more like guidelines anyway */pirate voice*), you can get all sorts of ideas from them. Well, for those that have Sword Coast Legends, you can now get the Knights of the Green Flame adventure.

Midweek Snippets

Hello there, Wednesday. How are you? I see you’ve brought the Guns ‘N’ Roses weather back with you. And while I know I’m in the minority here in Atlanta when I say, “woo! Rain!” I don’t care. I enjoy it. So there.

Along with the rain, Wednesday brings us our Midweek Snippets post, where we bring you some bite-sized stories that we’ve found over the past couple days.

In this batch we have: Tor Gaming Announces The C’thu Kickstarter, We’re All Mad Here NPC Contest from Wizard of the Coast, Fistful of Lead: Reloaded fully backed on Kickstarter, Tin Man 35% Off Sale Ends Sunday Night, Shieldwolf Miniatures releases new Goblins, New Sci Fi Dwarves from Scibor, Oddzial Osmy’s 3mm and 15mm October Releases Arrive at PicoArmor, The Seraphis Institute – The Third Army Deal From Nexus Miniatures, Vasseth Strike Tank and Reaction Force released by Loud Ninja Games, New Shaleground 30mm and 40mm RL Deals From Tabletop-Art, Crusaders of the Faith Revealed for Shattered Earth’s Children of the One True God Faction, Medieval Mayhem Coming This December, New Cavalry Models From Brigade Models, and Just Four Days left on the Interface Zero kickstarter for Fate.

Yrisa’s Nightmare RPG Adventure On Kickstarter

Having pre-made adventures can really speed up your gaming sessions. Sometimes the DM doesn’t have all the resources and time necessary to come up with an adventure whole-cloth or on the fly. And really good DMs will get pre-made adventures and use them as the cloth with which they will create something else. Well, Ysira’s Nightmare is a new RPG adventure for Pathfinder and 5e D&D that’s up on Kickstarter now.

AltspaceVR Now Lets you Play Virtual Reality Dungeons & Dragons

Oh what a world we live in. Lawnmower Man has prepared us all for this. Actually, thinking about it, this does sound like the plot from a late-80s, early-90s movie. AltspaceVR now lets you play Dungeons & Dragons with anyone, anywhere (you know, where they have, like, a computer and stuff).

Midweek Snippets

We have made it halfway through the week. Just another couple days and we’re back to the weekend. For those here in Atlanta, we’re actually getting some sun. People are reacting as though they’d never seen it before, or haven’t seen it in years, anyway. But that’s what’s going on outside. As for what’s going on in here, it’s time for a healthy serving of bite-sized stories.

Today’s batch includes: Sword Coast Legends Soundtrack Now Available, Twisted release 4 new 32mm steampunk miniatures, Brother Vinni Launches Dungeon Sisters Indiegogo Campaign, and Shattered Earth’s Children of the One True God Unveiled.

Podcast Roundup

Monday sort of shot by like a rocket, at least for me. Seemed like I was just waking up when I was heading back to bed. Considering it was a Monday, I’d say that was entirely fine with me. Today’s rounding itself off a bit more, which is also fine. And since we’re right here in the middle of it, it’s time for our regular Podcast Roundup.

Today we have: Epic Game Night Podcast Ep. 25: Combat, Plaid Hat Games Podcast Episode 190: PHG D&D – 1 – The Gloaming, Dungeons & Dragons Podcast: Sword Coast Legends Launch Day, Privateer Press Primecast Episode 24,Tales of Malifaux 16, Geeks of the North Episode 20 – Interview with Elizabeth Beckley, the Miniature Mistress, Gamers Lounge Ep 116 – Rivals Kickstarter, New Salem, Guild Ball, and Through Gamer Goggles Role-Play Ramblings 1: The Problem Player.

Wizards of the Coast Posts Underdark Modifications for Dungeons & Dragons

Dig in the dark is a gas. Baby, can you dig it?
Wizards of the Coast has posted up some Unearthed Arcana content for Dungeons & Dragons to help you modify your character to operate in the world beneath, the Underdark. I’m guessing a torch would be handy. But that’s already in the PHB, I’d assume.

TGN Saturday Edition: Review Roundup

Ah… Saturday.
Let’s not say anything and just bask in its warming warm glowing glow for a moment.
… … … … …
Ah, much better.

And now, let’s get on to our Review Roundup.

This week we have: Nations: The Dice Game, Battle at Kemble’s Cascade, Meteor, Discoveries: The Journals of Lewis & Clark, DreamForge-Games APC, D&D Miniatures: Rage of Demons Booster, Resistor Card Game, and Malifaux Plastic Minis.

TGN Saturday Edition: Review Roundup

Hello, and welcome once again to Saturday. Mine so far has been… busy. Wake up, groceries, mechanic, and now here. Birthday party for a friend later (for whom I made a cheesecake last night), and possible gaming to be had. Should be a good time. But before we get to that, we’ve got some reviews and previews to talk about.

In today’s batch we have: 7 Wonders Duel & 7 Wonders, Dark City 30 Aircon Ducts, Machi Koro: Millionaire’s Row, Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, Creature College, Out of the Abyss, Cartagena, Morocco, and Mistfall.

Tome of Beasts Monster Manual Up On Kickstarter

Every good DM likes to have options. You don’t always have time or the desire to make a monster from scratch to throw against your players, so having lots of pre-made ones hanging around can drastically cut down the prep-time for your next session. Since 5th Edition D&D is still fairly new, there’s not bunches of monsters just hanging around to use. Well, Kobold Press is looking to fix that with their Tome of Beasts up on Kickstarter.

Out of The Abyss Now Available For Dungeons & Dragons

Dig in the dark is a gas. Baby can you dig it?
Dig down far enough in the Forgotten Realms and you’ll run into the Underdark. It’s spooky and… well… dark. Usually the home to all sorts of creepy-crawlies, but not necessarily demons. Well, thanks to Gromph Baenre, Archmage of Menzoberranzan, you can now find bunches of demons down there, too. Err… good? Well, it’s good if you’re an adventurer looking for adventure, I guess.

TGN Saturday Edition: Review Roundup

And we find ourselves once more deposited here on the weekend. With any luck, yours includes gaming of some kind. Be it CCG, LCG, RPG, Minis, or something else (hey, someone out there might still be playing with POGs, you never know…), may the odds be in your favor.

As it is Saturday (most beloved of days), it’s time for another Review Roundup.

This week we have reviews/previews of: Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn, Dungeons & Dragons: Out of the Abyss, Citadel Air Paint, Pathfinder Battles: Dungeons Deep Booster, Halfling Feast, Sentinels of the Multiverse App, Ubongo, Traders of Osaka, VS System Card Game, The Undercity, Arcadia Quest, Clockwork Wars, Codenames, Privateers: The Golden Decade, and Neuroshima Hex.

Rage of Demons D&D Minis Now Available From WizKids

Demons aren’t really known for their composure and restraint. In fact, it’s sort of one of their hallmarks that they don’t have composure and restrain, for the most part. As such, calling a set Rage of Demons seems rather fitting. Since I don’t think “Tolerance of the Demons” or “Quiet Contemplation of the Demons” would’ve gone over so well.

Total Party Kill Handbook: 5th Edition Encounters up on Kickstarter

Adventuring is a dangerous business. Characters sometimes don’t make it back after an adventure. If it’s a truly rough time, none of them may come back. That’s what’s generally known as a “Total Party Kill” (or TPK for short). Well, with the newest edition of D&D, there are new ways for DMs to achieve that TPK. The Total Party Kill Handbook, up on Kickstarter now, is all-but-guaranteed to have your players rolling up new characters.

Gale Force Nine Previews Upcoming D&D Collector’s Series Minis

With great power comes… the desire for even greater power. Or at least, that’s generally the case for demons. They’re not necessarily known for their restraint. With the Rage of Demons adventures going, Gale Force Nine is bringing another couple Demon Lords to your tabletop as part of the Collector’s Series of minis.

Wizards of the Coast Releases 1st Edition AD&D Players Handbook in PDF

Dungeons & Dragons has been around for seemingly forever. Well, for most of us reading this, it essentially has. It’s been around longer than I have, anyway. The first edition of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Players Handbook came out in 1978. For those of you that missed out on getting a copy (or if your copy has since disintegrated from use), you can now get the 1st edition of the Players Handbook for AD&D in pdf format.

TGN Saturday Edition: Review Roundup

Weeeeekeeeend! Hopefully you’re having a good one, even if you’re not at Origins or Lock & Load or the Board Game Challenge… like how I’m not at any of those. But it’s ok! We can have a good time gaming, anyway.

As usual for our Saturdays here (except for that weird mix-up last week), we’ve got our Review Roundup.

In this installment we have reviews/previews of: Pathfinder Battles: Gargantuan Shemhazian Demon, Princes of the Apocalypse, Mage Wars Companion App, Transylvania: Curses and Traitors, Pew Pew, Patchwork, Lanterns, and Sultan’s Library.

TGN Review: Dungeons & Dragons: Temple of Elemental Evil Board Game

Gathering some friends together for Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) can be fun, but if your group is anything like mine, the position of Dungeon Master is not sought after. Everyone usually wants to play a carefully crafted character, which is understandable considering how much time can go into developing one. Sure, the DM controls a bunch of characters and story, but more often than not, the NPCs will be murdered (usually by friends’ characters) and the story will be derailed (by those same friends). Plus, D&D can eat up a lot of time. It’s for those reasons I was interested in the new Dungeon & Dragons: Temple of Elemental Evil board game from Wizards of the Coast (WotC) and WizKids.
