Picking a winner from among the nominees for the 2007 Tabletop Gaming News Editor’s Choice Award was difficult to say the least. Pruning the list to a top ten list was even more problematic. But we have finally managed to pick a winner for the Editor’s Choice Award. This year has seen a flood of great new games and miniatures and the expansion of previously niche gaming markets, like Pulp and Weird War, as they gain new games and audiences.
Without a doubt the most important, and perhaps controversial, changes in the hobby this year have been in the area of pre-painted plastic miniatures and the winner of the 2007 Tabletop Gaming News Editor’s Choice Award, Rackham’s AT-43 game, represents this controversy but also epitomises what we think is the potential benefit of this type of game.

So after some deliberation we have managed to narrow down our list of nominees to a top ten list. TGN staffers Zac Belado, Grant Hill and Bob Barnetson each submitted a ranked vote for all the nominees and this list is a result of the cumulative votes each writer gave to the our full list of nominees.
We hope to have the winner picked in the next few days but until then take a look at our choices and if you feel so inclined tell us what your favourite releases were this year.
Update: the 2007 Editor’s Choice Award winner has been announced.

So as the year starts to wind down we thought it might be a good time to start the process of determining the winner of the 2007 Tabletop Gaming News Editor’s Choice award. This year it was difficult to come up with a list of nominees. This process started in early November with members of the TGN writing staff (Zac Belado, Grant Hill and Bob Barnetson) going over all of the new releases from the last twelve months to create a list of products that we thought were worthy nominees. This list consists of 150 different miniatures, games and accessories. We then started working on trimming this list down to 70 different products and then down to the 24 products that you see here. We nominated four products in each category in order to make sure that we had a list of nominees from across the entire range of releases from the last twelve months.
You may already have seen some of these products listed in our 2007 retrospective, but there are also a few releases in this list that are unique. Unlike last year where we did Editor’s Choice Awards in a variety of categories we are only doing a single award this year. There is no real reason for this other than the current demands on my time, so if you were looking for the more extensive writeups we did last year you have my apologies and we hope to return to this next year.
My thanks to Grant and Bob for all of their work in helping to assemble this list (twice!) and all the manufacturers that sent us photos. Unfortunately there wasn’t time to get the galleries ready for the awards. Despite being listed in categories we will be creating a top ten list from amongst all of the nominees and posting that list in a few days. After that, we will pick a winner.
Feel free to post your own comments about the nominees and if we missed something feel free to tell us what is was and why we should have included it.
Update: the 2007 Editor’s Choice Award winner has been announced.

We regret to inform you that due to suspicions of cheating and vote fraud in regards to the voting in both rounds of the 2007 TGN Reader’s Choice Awards that the staff of Tabletop Gaming News no longer feel comfortable with putting the TGN name to the results of these votes.
As such we are not going to be awarding any Reader’s Choice Awards this year. We are still working on the 2007 Editor’s Choice Award and will also be working on an article outlining some of our favourite releases from this year.
We’d like to thank all those people who submitted nominations and comments. And also those who only voted once. To those of you bragging about using an entire lab worth of computers to rig the voting, well thanks for screwing it all up for everyone. Hope you’re satisfied with the results of your actions.
