Normandy: the Beginning of the End Tactical War Game Up On Kickstarter

The storming of the beaches at Normandy. It’s arguably one of the most important days in world history. Certainly, the entire outcome of WWII could be in question if that invasion hadn’t gone the way it did. As such, every aspect of it has been picked over time and again, both by experts and those that are amateur historians. Gamers also love to pour over every detail, looking at “what if” scenarios. You can do that sort of thing with Normandy: The Beginning of the End, a new tactical war game that’s part of the War Storm Series of games. It’s up on Kickstarter now.

Battlefront Releases Game Night Kits for Flames of War

Games don’t survive without a community behind them. That’s simple fact. Midweek Snippets

I just realized this morning that this upcoming weekend is the last one before Christmas.
Ok, so, technically Christmas has one more weekend before it, but since it falls on a Monday, it means this upcoming week is the last one before the holiday. As such, I’ve just now realized how much baking I need to do (since that’s what I give as presents to friends). Looks like this Saturday’s shopping list is going to include a lot of unsalted butter, flour, and chocolate chips, plus whatever else I feel like throwing in. But before I get to those tasty treats, let’s get to today’s tasty treats in terms of bite-sized gaming stories.

Today on the platter we have: December Releases Available From Scotia Grendel, War in Christmas Village Sequel Up On Kickstarter, and HeresyLab Working on a New Line of Miniatures.

The Battle of Kursk was the largest tank battle the world had ever seen. It was also a point where the seemingly unbeatable German war machine was halted by the Russians. A true turning point in history, it will soon be brought to your tabletops in Platoon Commander Deluxe: Kursk, a new board game up on Kickstarter. In this strategic game, take control of either the Germans or the Russians and maneuver your units around the hex-grid board. Will you be able to rewrite history, or will the mighty Soviet Empire prevail again?

New German Pak 40 auf RSO Available For Bolt Action

The Soviets made some pretty good tanks during WWII. This was causing the Germans some issues. They had their reliable Pak 40 gun, but it wasn’t easy to move the thing around. And the original Tank Destroyers that were made had exposed crew quarters, so they could be taken out with small arms fire. The Pak 40 auf RSO compensated for that with an armored crew compartment, even though it made the whole thing rather slow. Now, you can bring it to your Bolt Action battlefield and take out those annoying T-34s.

Konflikt ’47 gives us a look at what the world might be like if WWII didn’t end when it supposedly did… and we got a whole new influx of strange technology. And that’s what you get with these two new releases for the Japanese faction.

New Winter Soviets Available To Order From Warlord Games

Winter is coming… No. Really. We’ve got about a month and a half and it’ll be here. New Char B1 bis Platoon Available From Warlord Games

Tanks were a brand-new invention during WWI. They were seen as a way to finally break the trench warfare of the Western Front. Between the wars, there was some innovation, but the French felt that the original styles were still some of the best and kept producing along those lines. Hence the Char B1, which was upgraded to the Car V1 bis. You can now add a platoon of these land-battleship style tanks to your Bolt Action armies.

Armies of Late War Deals for Flames of War From Battlefront

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. Well, during war, there’s a lot of necessity to make better weapons than the opponents. It’s sort of a life-or-death type of thing. As such, the gear that the warring factions were using at the start of WWII versus what they were using during the end of it can vary widely. If you’re a Flames of War player, you’ll want to check out these Late War deals that Battlefront has going on.

Halfway there.
We’re halfway to getting back to the weekend. Methinks I’m going to take it easy this weekend. I found out my LGS is going to be absolutely packed with several events running for games I don’t really play, so I’ll probably just veg at my place. I could use a relaxing couple of days, anyway. Though it does mean I still need to wait to break in my custom Guild Ball mat (more on that tomorrow. Stay tuned). In the meantime, I’m feeling a bit peckish, so how about noshing on some bite-sized gaming stories?

Warlord Games Taking Pre-orders For Road To Berlin Campaign For Bolt Action

The final part of the war in Europe during WWII was the Allies getting ready to head to Germany, itself. The D-Day landing had been successful. Paris had been liberated. Now it was time to head to Berlin. It wasn’t going to be an easy trek, of course, as the Germans were falling back on their supply lines. There would be counter-offenses, of course, and the war was far from a sure-win. Soon, you’ll be able to bring that action to your Bolt Action tabletops with the Road to Berlin campaign, available for pre-order now.

Plastic King Tiger Kit Available To Pre-Order From Warlord Games

When we look back on history, it’s only natural to come up with “what if?” scenarios. How would things have changed if certain factors had been altered. One that plays on many WWII historians minds is “what if the Germans had put the King Tiger tank into action earlier or in greater numbers?” The few that made it certainly did cause issues. Well, you can play out some of those “what if?” scenarios on your Bolt Action tabletops soon, as Warlord Games is taking pre-orders for a new plastic King Tiger kit.

New Bolt Action Releases And Pre-orders Available

One of the perhaps less-known parts of WWII was the exploits of the Chindits. These jungle-fighting specialists went into Southeast Asia and deep into enemy territory to harass the enemy’s back flanks. They would disrupt support and rail lines with their guerilla-style tactics. You can now add these tough fighters to your Bolt Action armies. Along with that, back in Europe, if you’ve got a German force, you can order the new Waffen SS Grenadier pack.

Warlord Games Taking Pre-Orders For Blood Red Skies Starter Set

Ah yes, another 2-player starter set. We all know how much I love them. This time around, it’s heading over London during WWII. Warlord Games’ Blood Red Skies starter set lets you recreate those dogfights on your tabletop. Pre-orders are being taken now.
