Saxon Miniatures for your Saxon and Viking needs

Saxon Miniatures is a new miniatures company specializing in Saxons, Vikings, and more dark age-era groups.

From the website:

Saxon miniatures is a ‘new’ company that do Dark Age miniatures . Why the dark ages? With just about every company producing just about every possible figure type, boats or buildings for this period, it might be a good question. The only answer I can give is this..’I love the Dark ages, and I love sculpting Dark age minis’.

Just to set out what Saxon Miniatures aims to do . I want to give it my very best shot and create a consistant scale and quality range to include ships , buildings and accessories. I want the price to be right and I want to simply enjoy sculpting all those different sub groups that I did many years ago.

Fireforge Games releases Sergeant at Arms

Fireforge Games has released their new Sergeant at Arms minis over in their webshop.

From the release:

Sergeant at Arms were first raised by Philippe II Augustus of France in 1191, during the Third Crusade, as a bodyguard against the Assasins. There were never many of them and they fought alongside the rest of the army as part of the royal familia. Richard I had 24 with him on the Crusades. They were formed into a 20-strong Corps of Sergeants-at-Arms by King Edward I in 1278, as a mounted close escort. In 1399 King Richard II limited the corps to 30 Sergeants, and King Charles II had 16. During 13th century most European Kings likewise established bodies of sergeant at arms. They carried a mace bearing the royal arms as a symbol of office but their armament included a crossbow as well as a short lance and a shield.

This box enables you to build up to 12 mounted sergeant at arms of the 12th/13th century. Several weapon options like spears, swords, axes, maces and crossbows are included.

Baueda latest release: 15mm Breton Cavalry

Baueda has some new 15mm Breton Cavalry models available now in their webstore.

From the release:

The “Armorican” peninsula came to be settled with Britons from Britain during the
poorly documented period of the 5th-7th centuries. When Vikings or Northmen settled
in the area in the ninth and early tenth centuries these regions came to be known as
Normandy and the name Armorica fell out of use. Western Armorica eventually evolved
into Brittany, while the east became the Breton March under a Frankish marquis. The
native Armoric Breton were skilled horsemen and their standard weapon was the
javelin, which they continued to use well after neighbouring Nortmans and French
took to charging with the lance.

The new cavalry pack can be used for roughly 600-1100 AD in several armies of the
area as native Breton cavalry was often employed as mercenary.

Saber’s Edge has free 30 Years War scenario

Saber’s Edge has a free-to-download 30 Years War scenario over on their website. What reason is there to not at least go take a look?

From the update:

The Battle of Dessau Bridge is a Thirty Year War scenario for Father Tilly. It contains a map, orders of battle, deployment details and background for an interesting and challenging encounter between old enemies – generals Mansfeld and Wallenstein.

This scenario supplement for Stephen Danes/AB One Games’ Father Tilly ruleset is provided as a free download from Saber’s Edge Hobbies and Games.

In 1626 general Mansfeld was threatening to invade Brandenburg and in February, with 12,000 men, he began his march along the right bank of the Elbe. This move threatened the imperial outpost at Dessau which protected the only bridge between Magdeburg and Dresden. If Mansfeld could take this position, all imperial supplies from Bohemia to the imperial army would be threatened.

A number of earlier attacks had failed to dislodge the defenders from their positions on the right bank of the Elbe and so general Mansfeld set to reducing the enemy through siege. The imperial outpost managed to hang on until April when Wallenstein arrived with reinforcements. Clearly able to see the enemy build-up around Dessau, Mansfeld was desperate to get a result. Having spent weeks in futile attempts trying to dislodge the bridgehead, he decided on one last desperate attack before enemy reinforcements became too strong.
