    From the Ancient World

    From their announcement:

This is a new range of figures consisting of single characters from the ancient world sculpted by me (Steve Saleh). There is never enough time to devote to every project or period in history, but this does not prevent me from making lists and one-off figures. This range is a kind of solution to the urge to sculpt figures that don’t easily fit into an existing range. They will be available individually through mail order. They will, hopefully, augment my (or other sculptors) ranges, adding character, or a special model, to an ancient army. Look out for more releases in the coming months!

    First off there are;

    • Marcus Calvinius - Centurion with a notable future
    • Sycorax The Witch - Celtic shamaness
    • Babastus - Celtic Druid

    June 5th, 2008

Blaze Away Miniatures & Models have released new Ancient Celt and WWII Japanese miniatures.

    From their announcement:

More new stuff to show you. 28mm ancient Celtic/Gallic figures. Including 2 chaps with captured Roman gear, 2 Gallic youths (beardless and clueless) and 2 fanatics. Nice way to give your hordes some character and variety.

Also, some new 28mm WWII Japanese figures in campaign gear. If you aren’t happy with the current ranges of 6′2″ gorillas in Japanese uniforms, try these. They actually physically resemble the size and height of the combatants. We even have Aussies to fight them.

Once again, beautifully made by Ian Mountain and extremely good value for your money - especially with our skirmish sets. Email us at contact@blazeaway.com.au to order or for more information.

    Ancient Warfare magazine update

    May 30th, 2008

New from the editors of Ancient Warfare magazine about their next issue as well as a podcast.

    From their announcement:

    Issue II-3

We’re putting the last touches to Ancient Warfare II-3 (June/July) as you read this. As befits a theme entitled ‘Age of the Trireme’, it has a strong maritime slant, which - for the landlubbers among you - is offset by articles on the Stratagems of Frontinus, very late Legions and the Hallstatt ‘Celts’. More info will go online this Monday at Ancient-warfare.com.

    Podcasts

Our first two podcasts have been download a total of over 4,500 times. That’s plenty of encouragement to make some more, so we’ll be working on episode three in the next few weeks. It should be ready for listening later in June.
To be able to have a few more podcasts than once every other month, we’re also planning to introduce podcasts on reader’s questions and Ancient Warfare debates. For the latter we’ll ask two teams of debaters to prepare arguments for two sides of a problem. Probably not the ‘tunic debates’, but perhaps something a little more fun, such as the question who was the best ancient general. It’s an ever popular question on forums, so why not debate it too?

    Wargames Factory release schedule update

    May 20th, 2008

Wargames Factory have posted an update to the release schedule for their 28mm plastic Roman and Celt figures as well as posting preview renders of their Celt cavalry and samples of their Roman decals.

    From their website:

In making the transition to an all-digital model (as done by that certain company in Nottingham), we switched over in early January to using Free Form software by Sensable Technology. As a result, our sculpting team, although proficient in digital sculpting, had to learn a completely new software program and workflow. As we went into mold design with the Romans, and started looking at them in comparison to the Celts and the test designs for the future sets, we realized that the sculpting had gotten a LOT better. I made the (very hard!) decision to go back and completely redo the Romans sculpts. Paraphrasing that old wine commercial, “We will serve no Romans before their time.” Shortly we will be showing examples of the completely re-sculpted Romans – painted.

Check out their website for full details and photos.
