War came in 1775, and the 33rd, under its young Colonel, Earl Cornwallis, was part of the reinforcement sent to America early in 1776. The Regiment was, at that time, said to be the best trained regiment in the British Army and as a result was known as “The Pattern”. On arrival in America the Regiment was brigaded with the Guards and subsequently took part in numerous battles both in the north, around New York and Philadelphia, and later in the south, in Georgia and the Carolinas. It was in North Carolina at Guildford Court House that it fought one of its toughest battles.

This versatile kit contains 30 highly detailed, multi-part plastic miniatures representing volunteer militia that fought for both freedom and in defense of His Majesty King George. The sprues contain militia wearing both 18th Century civilian clothes and the fringed hunting shirts “frocks” with buckskin trousers and moccasins. There are options for the militia to carry muskets or the longer, more accurate rifled musket and there are three headgear options including the tricorne hat, round hat, and knit cap or ‘liberty’ cap.

It has been a while since my last review of a Wargames Factory kit, but recently I was approached by WGF’s lovely sales people if I was free to review their latest release – the American War of Independence British Infantry box.

The models in this review were supplied by Wargames Factory. I prefer to point this out when ever I receive review copies just you guys know. I always aim to write my reviews in an honest and unbiased fashion because otherwise there would not be much point to them, right?

I would also like to point out that I’m not an expert on the American War of Independence so if you find any bits I or the models got wrong feel free to correct them in the comments section.

With all of this out of the way, let’s dig in!

There are four different “poses”: bare, in tricorne, in floppy hat, and in kepi. Use them with our existing bodies from the AWI and ACW to create black Patriots or Loyalists, or volunteers from the Civil War like the 54th Massachusetts.

The first is Highlander infantry. Most of the figures come as two-piece castings, body and head in bonnet. (The officer is one piece.) A set includes 12 soldiers + officer + bagpiper for $40 USD. Figures are also available individually for $5 each, and head sets (9 per set) are available for $3.

These are British infantry on campaign. They’re wearing round-about jackets and uncocked hats, the kind of practical uniform the British army eventually adopted for fighting in the American wilderness.
