    August 2nd, 2008

    Ask TGN

    Phil Malpas ask:

I paint and collect 1:72 Russian Napoleonics. Do you know where I can find Napoleonic opponents in the West Midlands (Wolverhampton)

Anyone have a club or gaming group they can direct Phil to?

    July 29th, 2008

    Ask TGN

    LarkinVain asks:

With GenCon a little over 2 weeks away, I’m interested to know what exclusives and goodies will be available this year.

TGN has a lot of readers who are also belong to various miniatures companies. Maybe they can let us know what specials they are promoting this year.

Ask TGN: Romance of the Three Kingdoms rules

    July 5th, 2008

    Ask TGN

    Ken Whitehurst asks:

I am a fan of the Dynasty Warriors video games. Can anyone recommend a good set of rules and miniatures for a Romance of the Three Kingdoms style miniatures game?

    Ask TGN: using an airbrush

    June 6th, 2008

    Ask TGN

Not really asked by any one person is particular but there have been many comments about this so perhaps we can ask a general question regarding what sort of airbrush is good for a beginner to use and what is an airbrush best at painting?

    Ask TGN: starting Warhammer 40K

    May 29th, 2008

    Ask TGN

    An anonymous reader asks:

I’m going to buy Warhammer 40k, my local shop has a good basic starter pack deal, but I would love some tips or ideas from players which as newbies we might not know about.

Ask TGN: Fantasy and Ancients skirmish

    May 7th, 2008

    Ask TGN

    An anonymous reader asks:

I am looking for a generic fantasy and ancients skirmish system for use with 28mm scale figures. Ideally this would have a point costing system so that I can build stats for my own miniatures. Is their such a system for either genre?

    Ask TGN: Has AT-43 succeeded?

    April 21st, 2008

    Ask TGN

    Thorbjørn Nielsen asks:

AT-43 has been out a while now and I wonder if it has “succeeded”. Is it any good? Is it worth it?

    Ask TGN: Black Library books

    April 3rd, 2008

    Ask TGN

    Mathieu asks:

What do you TGN readers think about the Black Library books? And more specifically are there any that you’d recommend to someone who’s fond of scifi/fantasy literature but who’s not very familiar with the Warhammer universes?

    Ask TGN: flocked game mats

    March 18th, 2008

    Ask TGN

    A TGN reader asks:

Most of the games I play are played on a 4′ x 4′ surface area but most game mats out there are either 2′ x 2′ 3′x 3′ or 4′ x 6′. Is there any one out there that sells a naturally 4′ x 4′ flocked game mat?

    Ask TGN: Wild West rules

    February 26th, 2008

    Ask TGN

    John, aka metalminimadness asks:

What’s are the best Wild West or Weird West miniatures game (rules and miniatures could be separate) available?

    Ask TGN: Spacecraft combat games

    February 14th, 2008

    Ask TGN

We’ve had two very similar questions so we thought it would be best to post them together to get responses.

    An anonymous reader asks:

I was wondering what is a fun game that is along the lines of Battlefleet Gothic? I was just wondering because it seems like GW isn’t doing so well and I’m a little wary of starting any of their other games.

    Ken Whitehurst asks:

Given the recent announcement by Mongoose that Babylon 5: A Call to Arms will be discontinued, what Spaceship combat game do people prefer? I have greatly enjoyed Silent Death in the past, and hear Full Thrust is popular. Are their others? Will A Call to Arms live on?

Ask TGN: Looking for a generic sci-fi game

    February 2nd, 2008

    Ask TGN

    An anonymous reader asks:

I’m looking for a generic Sci-fi system for my 28mm figs. Has anyone played Defiance: Vital Ground from MJ12? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ask TGN: Choosing a brand of acrylic paints

    January 25th, 2008

    Ask TGN

    Reader Patrice asks:

I’m in the process of buying myself a complete set of new acrylics paints. I started long ago with GW paints and achieved some good results with them. I then switched to oils (Winsor & Newton) and achieved even better results with those but the problem is that they take a long time to dry and you have to be very patient.

So I want to, in parallel of my oil painting, start again using acrylics. I’m hesitating between the Vallejo and the P3 range from Privateer Press? What would be the guidelines to choose between one or the other?

Ask TGN: Model counts for Weird War gaming

    December 22nd, 2007

    Ask TGN

Andres Villaseca is interested in determining how many miniatures he may need for some of the new and existing Weird WWII games.

    He asks:

It seems Weird War is getting extra attention but I haven’t been able to decide what game to try. A huge factor for deciding a game (at least for me) is the model count in each game. So, what is the model count for a standard game in each of the different Weird War games available?

Ask TGN: finding a figure holding a box

    December 16th, 2007

PMMJ needs some help finding a figure for something he has in mind:

I’m a big fan of alternate figs, but I am stumped on this one. I’m looking for a fig, in close to 28-30 mm size, male or female, modern to sci-fi, or close to either. The tricky part: I want them holding a box in an open hand, or in both hands. Or one hand open flat, or something like that for me to convert. (I’m not great at conversions, but I can do a little.) Any clues?

Ask TGN: Games for younger players

    November 21st, 2007

    Ask TGN

Gaz Palmer has an interesting question that many of us probably already have experience with.

    He asks:

I have 2 younger children 9 and 12. What game would TGN readers recommend for a younger gamer like my kids as their first miniatures game (with respect to easy of play, fun factor, etc)?

They’re already interested in the modelling and painting side so pre-painted isn’t really a pre-requisite. I currently play Warmachine, Hordes, 40k and Urban War.

Ask TGN: 28 mm WWII skirmish rules

    November 17th, 2007

    Ask TGN

Reader a_thousand_hats has the kudos of having the first Ask TGN question thrown out to the masses.

    He asks:

I’m contemplating giving WWII miniature wargaming a go. I prefer skirmish level games e.g. 1 model = 1 man (Where you have up to 20 minis and maybe a vehicle or two… hmmm tanks).

With regards to my kind of approach to the setting - think Kelly’s Heroes and the scene close to the minefield with the shoot-out across the road. Scale must be 28 mm. I prefer that size for painting purposes. Can anybody recommend some systems to try out?

Update: Some links to some of the systems suggested.
