I don’t want to be all political and eco-warrior, but a quick internet search confirms my suspicions that most if not all these “rare and exotic woods” are rarely if ever grown in plantations and are mainly/exclusively sourced from tropical deforestation in places such as Belize, Nigeria and Guatamala. None as far as I can tell have any current trade restrictions, but several are under-consideration with CITES as recommended to be added to endangered species lists with accompanying bans in trade (Bolivian Rosewood, Honduran Rosewood, Sapele).

It’s a personal choice, but I wouldn’t buy dice made from rainforest hardwood for the same reason I wouldn’t buy ivory dice.

Just thought people should know some background before pledging.

Doesn’t this product already exist? I feel like Kickstarter is watering down so many ideas. People even claim them to be their own straight Shia LaBEouf style.

Good luck with the kickstarter but honestly the splitting of this already small market share (gaming) only promises that no company grows and we keep dealing with those “small business” problems.

Society functioned just fine before huge corporate entities, and Kickstarter is proof that people feel that way still.

Soon the days of huge companies that control the entire market will be over. Having a couple of huge entities that tell people what they want and should buy is never a good thing.

That said, using woods that are almost endangered species lists isn’t cool however.

Being made from a natural material I would have concerns on the natural tendency to roll to a specific side and also being wood the eventual rounding of the edges either naturally from use or intentional.

Ghool, you obviously have zero business education. Corporation does not equal giant evil entity or monopoly. It does however lead to market stabilization, quality control and accountability. There is really no point in going further on this point as I do not want to derail this plug on this guys kickstarter. Someone else does this excellently and because it is a niche market it is hard for that person to build a business and hire employees to continue putting out an excellent product. Kickstarter should be to innovate new ideas or business models that enrich us not I saw this done and I bet I could do it too. I also think larger companies using it as a preorder system is a travesty as well.

Nalik, I am fairly certain these are not meant to be casino dice they are meant to look sweet and be a display or status piece.

As for sustainable the author of the kickstarter should most certainly post their wood sources as it seems to be an issue for the eco friendly!
