Here in the US, the football season is underway. Many of you, I’m sure, are following your favorite teams (hopefully to victory). Quite a few have been playing various football video games quite possibly for decades now. But what if you want to unplug from your tv and go play a tabletop game? Well, Bombshell Games has something for you in the form of Techno Bowl, their tabletop game of classic arcade football action. It’s up on Kickstarter now.
In the game, you are the coach of your own football team. You get to make your roster as you see fit and even call plays, creating them and formations. Players might have skills that give them an advantage in certain places on the field, but as there’s no actual position designations (no specific designation for quarterback, running back, center, and such), you can place them as you want. Play is done through rolling 2d6 and adding modifiers. Roll a 10+ and you succeed and can activate again. 7-9 is a success, but your opponent can do a half-activation afterward. 6 or less and you’ve failed. Using that simple set of rules, you and your opponent go through activating players, and either try and score a touchdown, or keep your opponent from doing so.
The Kickstarter campaign’s up and running now. They’re not quite halfway to their goal, but there’s still 27 days on the clock to get to the endzone.
