The British Isles certainly have seen their fair share of conflict over the centuries. Seems everyone wanted that piece of land to call their own. Rather rich in various resources, it’s no wonder that armies have almost constantly been plundering it. Now you can recreate some of those conflicts with Battle for Britain: Wargame 1066. Using paper armies, this is a rather economical way to create really big battles.

The troops in the book include King Harold’s Huscarls, Hardrada’s Vikings, and William’s Norman Knights (as well as some knights probably not named Norman). The troops are laid out so you can cut out and create stands of soldiers. The rules for the figures were designed by Andy Callan and scale-able so you can fight small skirmishes up to massive clashing armies.

When I see the paper figures (cut out very carefully), I think of other famous paper cut-out figures…

“In the frozen land of Nador, they were forced to eat Sir Robin’s minstrels. And there was much rejoicing.”
