A somber Leviathans update

Catalyst Game Labs has a new update about Leviathans up. It’s not the most upbeat post ever about the future of the game.

From the post:

Been a number of months since the last update as we’ve continued to investigate how to proceed with Leviathans. And the conclusions we’ve come to at this stage is there simply isn’t a short-term fix.

It’s a multifaceted problem

And the train continues to derail. This project has been so plagued with bad decisions from the word go. You know what also would have helped sell some of those giant boxes in stores? Maybe actually putting a picture of an actual model somewhere on the box?? And no agreement to get your molds and concepts back? That’s ridiculously irresponsible.

I really like the background material and the ship models for this game. I’m kind of lukewarm on the rules. My biggest pet peeve being that you really can’t cross someone’s “T” because you can’t actually make one ship perpendicular to another! I had a copy of the box but ended up selling it to friend who was more interested in it than me. If a couple more factions had been released last year, I might have hung onto it.

I’ll be interested to see what they do when they re-release it. Here’s hoping they ditch the hexes and do something VERY much like X-wing (not just production format but rules too!!).

Catalyst were never serious about this from the get go. How many years did it take them from the previews to the finished starter box? Spartan Games made a complete steampunk game with an extensive minis line in the time between Leviathan’s first demo and the actual release.
