Warlord Games Taking Pre-Orders For The Roman Invasion of Britain Set

Roman conquests spanned more than just the area around the Mediterranean. They took over much of continental Europe and then made eyes at the isles just across the sea. The British Isles seemed ripe for invasion. However, all the Brits living there at the time didn’t quite see it that way. There was much fierce fighting that you will soon be able to bring to your tabletop with the Roman Invasion of Britain set for Hail Caesar, available for pre-order now from Warlord Games.

5 Great Tabletop Game Conversions for iPad

Digital versions of your favorite tabletop games are becoming popular. They offer some fantastic benefits but also sacrifice some of the experience for convenience.

Virtual or Actual?

There are benefits and disadvantages to both iOS and physical versions of games.

It’s hard to cluster four players around a single iPad to play a game, but cleanup and setup is way, way faster with the iOS versions. Some titles can be sent to an Apple TV with AirPlay or Apple’s Lightning to HDMI adapter, making the small screen less of an issue.

“House rules” are nearly impossible on iOS games, unless already selectable in a preference somewhere in the game —for instance, some of the more popular Monopoly rules, like money on the “Free Parking” space are generally toggle-able.

One might think that the barrier to entry on the iOS is the cost of the iPad, but if you add up all the savings for all five titles here, you’re looking at about $500, far more than the retail of a new iPad.

Regardless of the list of pros and cons, iPad gaming goes far beyond simple school-house favorites, with something for everybody.

IDW Posts New Masque of the Red Death Preview

And this time, it’s not about being killed with literature, but just being killed in literature. IDW Games is going to start off the new year with the launch of their Kickstarter campaign for Masque of the Red Death. So, besides perhaps going back and reading the Poe story that is the basis for the game, what else can you do to make sure you’re prepared? Early Egyptian and Nubian Javelinmen Available From Warlord Games

Early warfare was pretty simple (relatively speaking). Take a stick. Attach something really pointy to the end. Throw at the enemy. In a way, we’re not really all that different now (just the points don’t have to be as sharp, or the sticks as big, because we make those things go really, really, really fast). But if you’d like to have your warfare at throwing distance, Warlord Games can help with some new Egyptian and Nubian Javelinmen kits.

CMON Previews Um’Kator Tribe For HATE

Each tribe in HATE focuses on different strategies within the game. For the Um’Kator, they’re the type that can work with fate, itself, to bring themselves victory. The old saying, “It’s better to be lucky than good” applies here. If all the dice roll in your favor, how can you lose? (obviously, they can’t just make all their dice roll whatever they want, as much as all of us wish we had such power…)

CMON Posts HATE Development Article

Early next year, CMON will launch its Kickstarter campaign for HATE, its newest game. Based on the graphic novel, the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic future where society has collapsed (Gee, thanks Todd!) and civilization has been reduced to a few people, living in tribes, fighting over the meager resources. But what was it like developing the game? We get a small bit of insight into that with this preview.

Once again, the true evil in the world rears its ugly head.
I, of course, am referring to… Ancient Egypt! *Imperial March plays over scene of the pyramids*
That’s where you’ll be headed (well, Egypt, anyway, not necessarily the “ancient” part) in Omens of the Pharaoh, a new expansion coming for Elder Sign. It would seem that the Great Old Ones liked sunshine and cats, too.

Anvil Eight Previews the Beetle For Aetherium

The Rhommox are not like any other faction that’s in Aetherium. These beast-like programs aren’t out for personal gain or some political agenda. They’re just looking to destroy. And within that horde, the Beetles are some of the biggest and toughest. They’re also able to make sure their disruption effects trigger automatically, certainly something to watch out for if you see one charging at you.

Privateer Press Previews Blindwater Army Box For Hordes

Born on the bayou!
Born on the baaaaaaaaaaaaaayou!
Born on the bayou!
My favorite song from CCR, and arguably one of my favorite songs, it’s what pops into mind whenever I hear about the Blindwater army for Hordes. That also happens when I hear Amos Moses, but that’s not quite as rockin’ a tune. I’ve always loved the Gatormen for Hordes, and if I was thinking of getting back into them, or if you’re out there, looking to maybe give them a try, Privateer Press is coming out with their army box next month.

New Stormcast Eternal Character Available to Order From Games Workshop

The Stormcast Eternal will stop at nothing in order to beat back the forces of Chaos and bring order to all the realms. While each one is a stalwart soldier, there are those among them that stand out. Leaders among the elite, they are like a bolt of lightning against their enemies. Such is the case with Lord-Celestant Gavriel Sureheart (… who also kinda sounds like a Care Bears character, but that’s beside the point). If you’d like to add him to your army, Games Workshop is taking orders now.

Micro Art Studio Announces Alven Yard Faction For Wolsung

Confrontation Classic Coming to Kickstarter Next Year

I remember when Confrontation first came out. At the time, at my LGS, all we really had were GW games. Then Confrontation and Warmachine showed up at basically the same time and split the community almost down the middle. I tried a little bit of both. However, as time went on, Confrontation ebbed away while Warmachine kept on the rise. Many people miss the Confrontation system. Well, next year, their wait for its return will be over. The game will be making its way to Kickstarter for a rebirth.

On the Shoulders of Heroes Fantasy RPG Setting Up On Kickstarter

I know a lot of people love 5th Edition, but my heart will always be with 3.5th Edition. If someone’s down for a game, it’s the system I prefer. And, thankfully, I’m not alone. There’s still new material coming out that’s designed to work within that system. For example, there’s On the Shoulders of Heroes, a new fantasy RPG setting, incorporating classic Tolkien-esque motifs, but also bringing in influences from German and Japanese folklore. The campaign book is up on Kickstarter now.
