Catalyst Game Labs Posts March and April Releases

Yes, yes, yes. I know that March is basically over. April will be here… well… Friday. But it just means that if you didn’t know about the books released for Shadowrun and Battletech the other day, you can just run yourself out and get it. Also, you can get your finances in order for all the things releasing in April. And trust me, there’s a lot.

And we bounce back in the WizKids previews to the upcoming Uncanny X-Men set for HeroClix. This time around, it’s the mistress of misdirection, herself. Now you see her. Now you see someone else. Now you see someone else else. And so forth and so on. It’s a preview of Mystique.

Fiona Vs Cake Expansion Available For Adventure Time Card Wars

On the long drive up to Adepticon, Blackstock and I had conversations about many topics. One was parallel universes and alternate realities. Like how, right now, there’s an infinite number of mes, all living different lives (or exactly the same lives) as me. Craziness. Well, in Adventure Time, Fionna and Cake are alternate-reality versions of Finn and Jake, and they’re making their appearance in the Adventure Time Card Wars game.

Spring Release for Alkemy

Spring has sprung.
At least for those of us here in the Northern hemisphere. The days are getting longer. The grass is growing. The pollen is friggin’ everywhere, coating everything in a green/gold powder coat that sends people coughing and choking… But still… Spring… Anyway, the Spring releases for Alkemy are now available (you can still buy them in the Southern hemisphere, even though it’s Fall now).

Terrain Corner/Snippets

So, as I was in a car for just slightly more than 1/2 of yesterday, I didn’t get much of a chance to post up the Midweek Snippets post. As such, I’m rolling it in with today’s Terrain Corner, as I have a bit of time right now to do so (and to give you a “peek behind the curtain,” I’m actually typing this late at night here on Wednesday).

Anyway, in this Terrain Corner/Snippets post we have: Gaddis Gaming Launches 28mm WWII Miniatures Kickstarter, Turn One Gaming Supplies Releases 8-Bit Dice, Donnybrook skirmish game rulebook now available, Post Apocalyptic Dwarf Bikers Up On Kickstarter, Round-Lip Space Dungeon Bases Available From Tabletop-Art, Heroic Maps – Giant Maps: The Great Labyrinth Now Available, MidKnight Heroes Super Chibi Finial sculpts are in and late pledge extended, Crossover Miniatures Releases Frederick Class Airship, Meka Desert: Pwork Wargames science fiction gaming mat, Gamelyn responds to backers with only 3 days left, and Battle Valor Games 15mm Fantasy New Releases.

What sort of things have there been? Well, there’s…

Trail of the Apprentice RPG Adventure Up On Kickstarter

You know, we’re all new at something at some point. And while you may have a natural talent for something, you’re still going to have to do a lot of learning to be able to become a master at any particular skill… particularly adventuring in a fantasy realm. That tends to take a lot of time and effort in the form of killing various monsters (who hasn’t had to clean out a local tavern’s basement of giant rats?). Well, I don’t know if there’s any basements full of giant rats in Trail of the Apprentice, but I do know that it’s up on Kickstarter now.

Emergence Board Game Up On Kickstarter

Artificial Intelligence might be the greatest achievement in science… or it might just doom us all. In Emergence, the latter has happened. Whoops. Thankfully, the few surviving humans are still fighting back. But they must keep their identity secret as they move through the robot world, lest they be taken out. Meanwhile, the robots might have almost wiped us out, but the humans that are left have gotten rather sneaky. It’ll be tough to tell robot from human. Can you trust your friend?

Granny Grating Armies Up On Kickstarter

Hobby gaming, in general, is a pretty expensive hobby. Figures for the various games that we love to play aren’t always cheap, and that can lead to a lot of people feeling that they really can’t get into it. However, that doesn’t have to be the case, as is being shown with Granny Grating Armies, up on Kickstarter now.

Talisman: The Horus Heresy comes to Android

So, here at Adepticon, obviously there’s a whole ton of gaming going on (no, duh). But what if you and your buddies get together and suddenly you’re really jonesing for a particular game but… damnit! Sweet Home, Chicago

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been in my home city (I was born just right over there *points towards Alexian Brothers hospital). But here I am in Schaumberg, ready for Adepticon.

I’ll be updating what I can here, but be sure to check out the TGN Facebook Page for regular photo updates. I’ve already scheduled a demo of a brand new game from Andy Chambers, so be on the lookout for that as well.

It’s gonna be a great show. If you’re here and see me roaming around, feel free to say hi.

New Releases For Dark Age Now Available

Well, we just passed Easter last weekend. A lot of people took the time to go to church, even if they don’t normally make a habit of it (whereas nuns do tend to make a habit of it… Get it? Get it?… never mind).
Anyway, the Forsaken are Dark Age‘s religious fanatics and they’ve got themselves a new saint in this new set of releases.

Wrath of Kings Reviews Neritic Horror

There are many crazy things that live in our oceans. Just the other day I saw this story about some neon-green-eyed fish-thing that they brought up from the depths.
Yeah, I really have no desire to go swimming in the ocean, thankyouverymuch. Hell, I might run into a Neritic Horror! At least if that did happen, though, the preview posted up for Wrath of Kings will let me know how to deal with it.

XenoShyft Now Available On Steam

Sometimes you find yourself with some extra time on your hands that you might not have expected and you want to game. Unfortunately, you might not have thought to bring any games with you. Or you’re in a place where it’s not really feasible to pull out a board game and start playing. That’s where mobile versions of games come in. CMON is happy to announce that their critically-acclaimed deckbuilding game, XenoShyft, is now available on Steam.

Daughters of the West Gang Available To Pre-Order For Dead Man’s Hand

We’ve got a spaghetti western here on 36.
I like spaghetti westerns.
I like the way the boots are all reverbed out walking across the hardwood floor.
In fact, everything’s got that big reverb sound.
There’s also a new gang available to order for Dead Man’s Hand.

WizKids Previews Rat King For HeroClix

Just because we got that one preview for the upcoming X-Men set doesn’t mean that we’re done seeing figures from the TMNT set for HeroClix. Oh no. There’s still more to be had, the next one of which is the Rat King. I remember having the toy as a kid.

Podcast Roundup

Well, it’s the last day in the office for me this week. Tomorrow at 5am I’ll be getting ready to head to Adepticon. I’m pretty excited about the show. If you’ll be at the show, what are you looking forward to the most?

For the long car ride, we’ll need plenty of stuff to listen to. Good thing there’s gaming podcasts. If you have travels this week, you’ll probably want to listen to these as well.

Curse of Strahd Tarokka Deck Now Available

The land of Barovia is a pretty dark and bleak place. The citizens live in fear of the things that go bump in the night. Those that travel through the land would do well to visit Madam Eva, a fortune teller in the region, who can help them either stay out of trouble or learn just where to find it. Now you can use her Tarokka deck for yourself, as Gale Force Nine has just released it.

Warlord Games Previews Algoryn Mag Mortar for Beyond the Gates of Antares

When the enemy is dug in well, perhaps with all manner of fortifications protecting them, it’s time to bring in the big guns. Or perhaps the enemy is sweeping across the field of battle in a tide, threatening to overwhelm your position. That’s another time to get those big guns out. And it’s just that sort of piece we get a look at today from Warlord Games.

WizKids Posts New Preview of Unpainted Minis Line

When it was announced that WizKids was going to create a line of unpainted minis, there were calls of… let’s say, skepticism. Many people don’t associate great sculpts with WizKids, and the idea of simply getting unpainted versions of those figures didn’t really appeal. However, WizKids has posted up some preview art and renders for what they’re working on and people might change their minds a bit.

Napoleonic French Hussars Available To Order From Warlord Games

The old saying goes that, “Clothes make the man.”
And before anyone really thought, “you know… maybe we shouldn’t have our soldiers stick out like sore thumbs to get shot down,” many army units were known specifically for their flashy uniforms. One such were the French Hussars, which you can now get from Warlord Games.

Monday Terrain Corner

I hope everyone’s having themselves a good Monday.
Mine’s finding me a little under the weather. Seems that it wasn’t just the pollen around here getting to me. But with some Dayquil, orange juice, and soup, I’m hoping I can be over this by the time I head for Adepticon on Wednesday.

But in the meantime, it’s time for Monday’s Terrain Corner. Seems the Easter Bunny ran off with most of the stories, leaving just one for us to find today. But that’s alright, because it’s that Pwork Wargames is now going to be offering their mats with mousepad-style backing.

Time Wars: Supreme Command Card Game Up On Kickstarter

Usually, card counting and deck stacking will, at best get you bad stares and calls of starting a new game. At worst, you’ll get thrown through a plate-glass window out onto the dusty street outside (I… watch a lot of Westerns). Well, in Time Wars: Supreme Command, not only are you not penalized for counting your cards and stacking your deck, it’s sort of the whole strategy. The game’s up now on Kickstarter.

A Time To Overkill: A Review of Deathwatch: Overkill

It would seem that everything isn’t right on Ghosar Quintus. The locals have started to talk a bit funny, with sounds of strange aliens entering their speech. Oh, and there’s the Deathwatch Kill Team that’s gone missing. That’s probably a bad sign as well. We should probably send in another to check out what’s going on. That’s the story behind Deathwatch: Overkill, the new board game from Games Workshop.

tgn-reviews_360

As you saw in my unboxing article, they’ve sent me a copy to check out. Now it’s time to give you a review of the game, itself.

So check your bolter and say a prayer to the Emperor, it’s time for another TGN Review. This time it’s Deathwatch: Overkill by Games Workshop.
