Chaosium is coming out with a new edition of the long-standing gaming staple, Call of Cthulhu. They’ve released the Quick Start version of the game.

TGN Reviews

Though, we’re not entirely sure he was all that with it to begin with (just kidding, Enrico!). Get ready for another TGN Feature. This time it’s Call of Cthulhu 7th edition QSR.

Arcknight running Flat Plastic Miniatures Kickstarter

Arcknight has a Kickstarter campaign up and running for Flat Plastic Miniatures. Pretty self-explanatory in the description there.
They’ve made their goal, so check out stretch goals and extras they’ll be aiming to unlock for the next 57 days.

Flat Plastic Miniatures

From the campaign:

Something NEW in miniature gaming – hundreds of affordable, quality tokens printed onto transparent plastic with front and back art.

We want to bring a new option to tabletop gaming – miniatures printed on thick clear plastic, with great double-sided art that’s pre-cut and ready to use for pennies on the dollar.

The Flat Plastic Miniature (FPM) is similar to a cardboard pawn or papercraft mini, except that it’s produced on thick transparent plastic. They are artistically pleasing without any white edges and can be used to create a library of miniatures OR supplement the existing miniatures you already have.

Nerds on Earth reviews Star Ralms iOS version

Nerds on Earth takes a look at the iOS version of Star Realms and gives us their thoughts on the situation in this article.

Star Realms

From the post:

Have you ever been to a baseball game and noticed that the people sitting behind home plate think every high fly ball is a home run, so they explode to their feet and their hands shoot up in the air?

“Oh! OH! OH! Awwwww…”

Of course, it turns out that it wasn’t a home run at all and the ball was caught in shallow right field, so all the fans just sit back down and make comments about what could’ve been. Hold that image because it will be relevant later on in this review of Star Realms for iOS.

It’s like a Sorny or a MagnetBox

Polyhedron Collider has a post up talking about a Chinese knockoff version of the Hearthstone card game.
I know a lot of people who would love if this were really a real, licensed product.

From the post:

Those cheeky Chinese have done it again and created a physical version of the online CCG sensation Hearthstone. Since first released by Blizzard card gamers have been asking if Hearthstone will come to a physical version, hoping for a replacement for the now defunct World of Warcraft TCG but most people who have played Hearthstone agree that it just wouldn’t work as a physical game.

But that hasn’t stopped Chinese retailer Taobao from selling a copy of the game. As reported by Games in Asia the game runs a lot slower in real life and isn’t tweaked for balance like Blizzards digital version. Both these issues go to show off just how clever Blizzard has been with their design and implementation.

Will this get shot down by Blizzard? Well I doubt it. Copyright infringement in China is rife, this is the country of Nikee sportswear, eyePhones and, let’s not forget, the World of Warcraft theme park.

Casual, card-based language game coming soon to Kickstarter

Predicate (wow, when was the last time you saw that word?) has created a new game called Roots. Create your own words and justify their existence. It’s coming soon to Kickstarter.

From the website:

Roots© is a game of inventing language. Players combine Prefix and Suffix cards to create new words, competing for the best connection to a Subject card. Whoever delivers the best explanation for their word captures that Subject card, gaining a potential piece of their secret Win condition – but stay sharp: players can manipulate each other’s progress with various Power cards, undermining opponents while advancing themselves. The result is narrative warfare in which the most creative, best spoken, and craftiest thrive.

Think Apples to Apples meets Scrabble meets a philosophy class.
