2010 TGN Editor’s Choice Winners

Editor's Choice Awards

The second round of voting is over and it is time to announce the winners of the 2010 Tabletop Gaming news Editor’s Choice Awards.

Over the last few weeks the members of the Award Jury have been submitting their votes for their top ten and then their top three entrants. Last week our “long list” was narrowed to a top ten in each category. And now it is time to announce the winner and runner-up in each of the seven categories.

This year’s awards were probably the most difficult to do. Not only was the nomination list the longest it has even been but the general level of sculpting, design and general professionalism in the hobby went up a notch this year making it quite difficult to pick the winners in this year’s Editor’s Choice Awards.

Dust Tactics Modeling Masterclass – Session 2

Fantasy Flight Games have posted the second article in their Dust Tactics Modeling Masterclass series.

From their website:

All of the models in Dust Tactics will look even better than they already do with just a small effort to paint, or personalize them in some way. In this second of three articles, we continue following along as master modeler José Brito fully customizes the two Axis combat walkers found in the Dust Tactics core set.

In the last article, José focused on the physical elements of the model by adding surface details, extra wires and cabling, armor plating and much more. Today, we’ll watch as he begins the painting process. You may be surprised just how quickly and simply a few layers of paint can transform these models into spectacularly unique playing pieces.

Brigade Models have extended their holiday sale.

From their website:

Although it’s almost the end of the year, the sale runs a little longer until the end of January 3rd, which is when the increased UK VAT rate kicks in. We’ll be adjusting our prices (upwards, I’m afraid) at that point. So everything is still 15% off for a few more days – and over the last weekend we’re running one final special promotion, this time on our range of 28mm Belgian Great War figures. For the next couple of days you can get an extra 10% off these, for a total of 25%. Happy New Year !

Galloping Major price increase

Galloping Major Wargames will be raising their prices in the new year.

From their website:

Along with most of the industry, we’ve been attempting to hold back prices against the cost of casting metal almost doubling over 2010 among other rising costs. Also along with most of the rest of the industry, we’re going to have to increase our prices, in our case to £8.75 per pack. Any orders placed before 8th January will be at the old price. New packs including the Ranger command packs will be released at the new price, but we’ll start to introduce opportunities for advantageous purchases of specific combinations of packs from that time.

DreamForge Leviathan Mortis limited edition first release

DreamForge-Games have released the first of their Leviathan Mortis Limited Edition kits on eBay.

Limited Edition

From their announcement:

The first release from DreamForge-Games has been listed on eBay.

Casting took considerably longer than planned, two days of fussing with new molds and adjusting vent and sprue size. I suppose it’s to be expected but it sure is frustrating.

Because of the current production rate, I have concluded that I need to move this out of house sooner than later and will be working toward that end.

Until then I had to choose what way would allow the most people a shot at purchasing a kit… I settled on the auction format. I know it’s not ideal and bidding may go over the suggested retail but the market supply and demand will set the price and if there is extra profit, it will go straight to the contract caster to get that end rolling.

I refuse to take pre-orders because I will not sell something that is not in a box and ready to ship…. Been there, done that, and won’t do it again. There are just too many things that can go wrong, and I would prefer not to anger my customers with unreasonable wait times.

Happy New Years everyone

Final few days of Hasslefree auction

Hasslefree Miniatures are auctioning two special editions of one of their 40mm figures.

Auctions

From their announcement:

As the final part of our ’12 days until Christmas’ promotion, we placed Day 12 on eBay. The auction is due to end on 01 Jan, 201123:07:40 GMT

The auction is for two completely unique, one of a kind, no other copies in this media, resin castings of two of our 40mm scale female figures. The figures are Artemis and Tiriel, one nude figure and one in platemail.

Cast by Grey Matter Figures (when they were known as MDC) in a bronze powder-coated black resin. Originally made as test pieces when we were looking into different types of resin for our 40mm range. Although extremely beautiful and crisp, we eventually decided that the productions costs of using this method was unfeasible so for the last few years they have just sat in our display cabinet.

Mayfair Games to reissue 1830

Mayfair Games have announced that they will be re-issuing the 1830 railroad boardgame.

From their website:

Mayfair Games’ is pleased to announce that its reissue of 1830 (MFG1830), the acclaimed railroad investment and building game, is going to press.  It is expected to begin shipping at the beginning of March with a street date of Thursday, March 17.  The game, designed by Francis Tresham, will contain the rules and components from the original classic design as well as a host of exciting new variants.  The 2-sided map (one side with a classic look, the other tailored to the additional material) lets players develop the Eastern U.S. as they build and invest in a railroad empire.

1830 covering the years 1830 to present. Players become the stockholders of America’s first railroad corporations. Since the largest shareholder becomes president, players compete for control of the strongest firms.  Presidents generate revenue by building track and buying and operating trains, regardless of shareholders’ needs.  Pay heed to the volatile stock market and strive to invest in flourishing companies in order to earn healthy dividends. Players will try to buy stock in corporations that are rising in value, collect strong, and sell before the stock values drop.

1830 contains, in addition to the original rules and components, a faster-playing basic game and a host of exciting new variants from some of the world’s best railroad game designers.  It is suitable for 3 – 6 players, age 12+, and will have a $70.00 MSRP.

New ShadowSea Expedition Log Entry

AbominationAntiMatter Games have updated the ShadowSea blog has been updated with a new Expedition Log entry.

From their announcement:
“…. Musketfire suddenly echoed through the cavern and clouds of smoke obscured my sight, but I could see soldiers panicking, dropping their weapons and turning to flee. One was lifted from his feet, then pulled into the darkness amid horrifying screams. Then I saw the thing, a monstrosity of unimaginable loathsomeness… The thing, I could not say it was a creature, rolled like a wave of pulsing flesh over a group of soldiers, grasping one with a flailing tentacle and stuffing it into one of its many gaping maws while crushing another under its bulk… ”

A new expedition log entry has been posted on the ShadowSea blog, describing the continuing exploits of Pilny the Aged and his team of adventurers in the Underlands. Some concept art from the game and a map of the battle scenario with victory conditions are included.
