  • New GW Design Studio podcast

Jervis and the gang are back for another Design Studio podcast. This episode has them discussing the design and development of the Hobby section of the new 40K 5th Edition rulebook.

Update: Indeed this is news about a podcast that GW posted on the 8th of this month. Which just goes to show how ridiculous it is to get “news” from their new website.

A note to GW, I shouldn’t have to find out about this via iTunes. The new site is nice but it is a disaster in terms of usability. There is no excuse for people to not be able to have a distinct News page or an RSS feed to get news from your site.

    The podcast from August 8th?

The new site is a travesty. I’ve been getting questions about Armored Companies and ‘Ard Boyz, so I went looking for the Armored Company rules that they say are on the site, but nowhere to be found.

I also have little hope for the new Magic site as well since it appears to be another templated package deal.

My itunes downloaded this one on the 8th.

Either we get it earlier on the UK itunes or it just slipped through your newshound net - although I agree an RSS feed is very useful the way the web works nowadays.

Sadly I don’t get to use my Mac that often.

I think you can download itunes to a PC now, in fact I’m sure I’ve got it running on the home PC which my wife uses for podcasts she’s interested in.

I’m looking for fewer reasons to use Windows, not more :-)

You can definitely use iTunes on a Windows machine, I use it for loading my podcasts.

I agree, it seems silly to get this news so late. I actually thought this meant another one had been posted since the one on the 8th!

    Hi,
As a Web designer I couldn’t agree more Zac. The new GW website is a disaster in terms of user interface.
(My first post at TGN. Love your site by the way. Very interesting content. Bravo!).

    Thanks.

I find it amazing that the web team that put together the new GW site seems to have focused purely on the sales aspects with almost no regard to the needs of the people using the site. What is the point of putting news and articles on the site if there is no way to find them other than visiting the front page compulsivley? And now the Advance Order and New Releases pages have “links” that you can’t share.

    madness.

I know it’s a typo, but it’s not the first time i’ve seen “GW” and “pos” used in the same sentance… ;)

    Zac says:

I’d prefer if people used the Contact form to send in typos. I don’t always read all the comments so posting a reference to it here won’t always lead to me correcting the issue.

    Thanks

Call me cynical but it seems another symptom of GW’s view of gamers as simply punters in need of a fleecing. The ONLY aspect of gamers that GW are interested in as a corporation are their wallets. Hence the massive focus on the webstore. The actual “free content” of the site is merely an afterthought and in no way planned or thought through professionally. Or so it seems to this end user.

Sure GW needs to make money. That’s not a problem. But lets be a little more sophisticated about it guys. Just running up to gamers and holding out a begging bowl is a turnoff…

I mean, I don’t wish to decry the nice guys in games dev and customer relations etc. All are working hard and having good ideas. BUT they aren’t the ones calling the tunes. The guys sitting at the top, setting the priorities are the ones I’m on about. They just don’t seem to get the idea that the world isn’t full of people desperate to throw cash at GW for no good reason. They just don’t appreciate that they have to EARN our money these days, in a very competitive market.
