we started these and we were gung ho for them, giving FFG a shot at this, but it’s failed miserabley and we are now doing the Frostbite campaign instead which is much more entertaining. FFG suffered from 2 things. First thing is scenario’s. They build them on 4 X 6 tables, the game is meant for pretty much a 3X3/4X4. The scenarios are very simple, which isn’t a bad thing, but these are really too simple for anyone who’s played a handful of full games. And they aren’t written well at all. The second scenario had a deployment zone 4″ X 4″ square for a 2000 point army that we had to adjust ourselves to compensate. The second thing they failed in was timing. They said this would be a weekly league, and then after a week and a half and two scenarios, everyone goes to Gencon. Without anyone in charge of putting out a scenario for week 3 on time and the inability of them allowing us to put in results and feedback for even the second scenario, I gave up. I had to wait nearly 2 weeks for the scenario between 2 and 3. And they have the next league listed as starting on 9/1 with sitll one week to go in this league, so that will have to be bumped as well. I’ll keep an eye on them, but for a company that seemed gladly to take on Rackham’s US Organized Play, the first impression is that they are not going to do well at all and us in charge of this stuff at LGS’s like myself (not an employee, but I pretty much run the events when they happen) might as well just do our own Organized Play. |

Peeking at the Confrontation scenario, it looks a bit more thought out than the AT43 one. We decided not to do the CaoR one as there are only 2 1/2 PPP armies out for it. We’ll do one probably after the first of the year once a good chunk of the Lions are out and that gives us 4 armies to field. |

I did get to talk to Mr. Lind, who is in charge of C:AoR and AT-43 league play, while at Gencon, and mention that I felt the scenarios seemed to have been written in a rush and the maps not up to the standard set by Rackham, and he did admot that the timetable for league play had been changed on him (instead of starting in September, they moved it forward to August) and he had to come up with something fast to have scenarios ready on time. He did say he welcomes feedback and wants the leagues to kick butt. I think with said feedback and a few more weeks, the scenarios will improve… |

Except in a few weeks I think everyone that is interested in AT-43 league play will probably either be playing Operation Damocles or Frostbite. I know I’ll be kicking off a Frostbite campaign since my copy came in. |

@Xenon_Wulf Did you get a sense that Mr. Lind has played both games a fair amount? One thing that scares me about FFG are those strategy articles which either have mistakes or are so basic you get the feeling that they have little or no play experience. I know at my LGS they have started off with OD and will then go onto Frostbite. Nobody has even really noticed that FFG is doing anything. And really, why get excited by a couple of scenarios when there are two full campaign books out there! |

I got the feel that he played the games, and took his job as open game coordinator seriously. The articles on the FFG website are aimed at new players or people who don’t play yet - as I think they should be (as annoying as that may be at times). |
