Snagged from several sources on the “tubes” is this photo of the upcoming Privateer Press Trollblood Slag Troll model.

Horrid.
Generally speaking, I kinda like it. I don’t care for the gigantic forearms and grossly oversized hands, but the pose on this one doesn’t bother me anywhere near as much as that on the Winter Troll. It’s much more dynamic, and the thing looks like it is in mid-swing.
Well, it’s basically the same arm pose as the dire troll mauler extreme. And I love trolls… but why do they all have to look bad? So many of them just look awful, it’s really unfair. I think the living creatures PP does are nowhere near as nice as the wajacks. This is just poor. Again.
well, I don’t like it. However, I will buy it as soon as it will be possible. Winter troll looks really nice in real. So, I hope that it will be the same story with this one… it often happens with PP minis
We don’t do single word comments on products here.
Perhaps you might want to expand on why you don’t like the mini?
I like it. Its not as nice as the Mauler, Axer or Impaler, but I like it more than the Winter troll or blizter.
The pose probably could be better, but then again it might just be the angle. The 360 would help.
I agree that the beast sculpts aren’t as good as the newer jacks, but I think they beat a lot of the old jacks hands down.

Seriously, what’s a guy gotta do to get a troll mini with some big, huge hands?
Looking at this guy’s arms, does it look like he has the upper-arm strength to move the weight of those ginormous mitts?
Remember the old Popeye cartoons when Bluto would blow on his thumb and inflate his hand like a balloon before punching Popeye? That’s what this guy reminds me of.
Seems a bit “blobby” to me… hands are a bit too large…
Not PP at their finest.
I’m waiting to see it “in the flesh” as the photo looks to be taken at a bit of an odd angle. Or at least it seems to look a little odd to my eyes.
Ugg more bad sculpts from PP trolls
They were doing so well for a while
what happened?
Big problem for me is the anatomy of the shoulder makes no since
(and actually doesn’t work)
PP’s art director/ quality control should have sent it back to the sculptor with a dire troll extreme sculpt…
According to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary, the third definition of slag is “to criticize harshly.”
Maybe this troll is a tribute to the naysayers…
Hasn’t PP gotten tired of rereleasing the same model with tiny variations over and over again. I keep seeing news, but nothing new. :)
I’m going with the majority on this one and saying “Nope, don’t like it”
It’s not that bad…
It’s just not that good either
I might just have to shelve the Trollbloods for awhile as there’s little thats been released that I feel I must buy.
My cryx on the other hand ;-)
It’s interesting that they chose to redo a sculpt that’s similar to the Winter Troll, but mirror imaged. However, perhaps the trolls in the IK are just plain ugly (facially ugly, not ugly sculpt) and out of proportion as shown in the sculpts?
Most of the weird sculpts that we get early previews of end up looking pretty good in person once you see it in your hand or on the table. I’m waiting final judgment until then, as I think that’s the only fair to criticize it.
I was thinking maybe “slag” was either - what it’s going to do to your opponent’s force (see, “turn into”…).
Or, maybe they’re reading Terry Pratchett as much as I am. Hmm…
I love the troll concept art and have them as my main Hordes force, but I’m not happy with the direction their sculpts have gone since Felix dropped the line and went to do his own thing.
It seems that whomever is sculpting their warbeasts just can’t quite ‘get it’ right.
And, I’ve never been a fan of the howyadoin’ wave pose like with GW’s gorger, the EDTM, the Winter Troll Guitar Hero and now this one. Give me something a bit more intimidating than an overhand cricket pitch…
Addendum: the ‘hands in the air like you just don’t care’ pose also makes storage/transport more difficult.
I don’t like it either. The sketches of the SlagTroll in der Monsternomicon were pretty nice, but this miniature just looks strangely proportioned and not “mutated” or “shapechanging”. I hoped for something a little flashier, more eyecandy. The troll light warbeasts all don’t do it for me except the bouncer and the impaler. Skorne all the way!
The primal trolls were just so cool. I don’t understand how we went from those. Some of the Evolution ones were alright, like the Pyre Troll. The Winter Troll, Earthborn, and this one are just pants.
What happened to the strong Troll chin?
@redstripe
Good observation - although the Pyre troll was also Primal so the problem happened somewhere after the initial beasts.
-Tim
redstripe: I would generally agree, although the Bouncer was a pleasant exception to that trend. I would blame part of the loss of quality on losing Felix as the sculptor, except I think he mostly worked on the warrior models which haven’t suffered IMO.
