  • Games Workshop Design Studio Podcast

Games Workshop has posted the first Design Studio Podcast.

    From their website:

Welcome to the first of our Games Workshop Podcast, the first of an irregular series that will allow the designers from the Studio to discuss the concepts and philosophies that go into their projects.

In our first episode, Studio veteran Jervis Johnson and Warhammer 40,000 rules designer Alessio Cavatore talk about the changes that were made to the new edition of Warhammer 40,000, focusing on the new rules and their impact on the game.

Update: the podcast appears to only be available from the American website. So if you have picked another country as your main GW website you may not see the content. The podcast is available via iTunes for those that use it. You can also try downloading the file directly.

I am as speechless as i could ever be, haven’t heard it yet, BUT form a company that yesterday was in “stone age” as far as public relations and internet go, this is a tremendous jump.

    evernevermore (John) says:

Wasnt there a new president or something put in a couple months ago… coincidence?!? hmmmm

    Zac says:

There was but it strikes me that this may have a bit more to do with the Design Studio and the new web developers

    LarkinVain (Joel) says:

Still listening to it and I’m very impressed. I think all companies should follow suit whenever they do a new release.

    a_thousand_hats says:

    :-O

That’s a surprise - a very nice one too ( I’d certainly be pushing for an official podcast if I was working in a games company nowadays).

    Nice job chaps!

    evernevermore (John) says:

It helps that it is Jervis and Alessio - I mean the guys that are basically the rules gurus for GW now

    toymaker says:

It sounded good. My rulebook arrived today so I’ll listen in the next day or so

    nanite (Seth) says:

Derailing the comments but, how does the rulebook look? Lots of lovely new pictures? Based on my playing time, I’d be buying it a pretty sci-fi art book that happens to have rules.

    Trent McCaffrey says:

Wow. It should be titled, Games Workshop catches up to Web 2.0
    Good work GW!

    Ken says:

Does anyone else find it amusing that GW requests feedback on the podcast be sent to Jervis by snail-mail? Aside from that, a podcast is a great move for GW. Welcome to the internet!

    LarkinVain (Joel) says:

Yeah that’s kind of weird. Especially in this day an age.

    xeoran says:

Every time I try to access this I get sent to the “choose your country” page. How on earth do I get past that and to the article?

Edit: scratch that, just turns out the podcast is on the US site- but not the UK site. So much for 2.0…

Jervis has had to change his email multiple times due to the volume of spam he received making it impossible for him to check his mail.

One shudders to think of the emails he would get from a “Contact Jervis” form on the GW website

    Zac says:

Direct link to the file has been added. Right click and “Save as…”

I shudder at the comments written about him on public sites. Good point, Zac.

    Osbad says:

Good move by the big G. The less the playing base feel ignored, the better the PR will be. Glad to see that they are at last waking up and joining us in the 21st century…
