  • Ask TGN: flocked game mats

    Ask TGN

    A TGN reader asks:

Most of the games I play are played on a 4′ x 4′ surface area but most game mats out there are either 2′ x 2′ 3′x 3′ or 4′ x 6′. Is there any one out there that sells a naturally 4′ x 4′ flocked game mat?

    Zac says:

What do you mean by “naturally flocked”?

    jasonjuta says:

i think he means ‘naturally 4×4 without cutting’? I’d just cut down a 4×6 myself.

    Gitteau says:

Zuzzy has 4×4. I guess those aren’t flocked, though. Don’t mind me.

    Try War Zone:

    They have flocked 4 x 4.

    Doc says:

whilst not flocked per se, Hotz Arts mats are very nice.

The mats I use are actually for model train dioramas and so they are wider than 8′ x 4′ and are intended to be cut to fit.

IAMNM even the GW mats are wider than 4′ are they not?

    Doc says:

GW mats generally have a “border” - the flocked area is *usually* 4′ wide.

    Audrey says:

Zuzzy mats are not flocked and are a bit scenic specific but I would still recommend them over a big sheet that has only been flocked green, like train mats. Personal choice I guess.

Thanks for the suggestions, but warzone aren’t mats and difficult to transport. It’s kind of weird that there are a lot of games that are played on 4 x4 but no one makes normal flocked mats for them.

I went with http://www.hotzmats.com/ they were fast, the mats were custom sized for exactly what I wanted and theyre beautiful. I just used them for the tournament we ran for warmachine at the trumpeter salute in Vancouver.

we bought 3 for our store too :D
