I guess the Freebooter 'Jack stole all the dynamism from the Mariner (and it's running off with it)! ;)

Really good review. And yes, I bet this would work rather well in a VSF setting as well.

Its more like first living human, dwarf and trollkin pirates without horns.

You are right, but that range (the "Pirates of the Broken Coast") is still described by PP as their first actual pirates. I guess people were expecting something different than undeads when they were asking if PP was producing pirates :)

"In May 2007 (incidentally the same month the 3rd “Pirates of the Caribbean” blockbuster was released), and after having been asked by fans for years whether they were producing pirate miniatures, Privateer Press finally released their first pirate models for their Warmachine game. "

Apart that is among others from Pirate Queen Skarre Ravensmane, the Black Ogrun Boarding party and Captain Rengrave and the Crew of the Atramentous.

Mariner (and truly all of the Pirate jacks) is one of the nicest jacks I ever painted. High ammount of details makes it a good choice for competition level painting - check out the NQ 15. I was surprised to see two first places in Battlegroup category of Grandmaster Painting Comp taken by Pirates!

Nice review, Mathieu. The Mariner is certainly one of the more characterful warjacks in the game, definitely worth the time and effort, especially if you're more of a hobbyist/painter.

I think PPS has improved their overall miniatures design as far as assembly is concerned. The Mariner reflects that.

As nice as it looks, I can’t see any other game out there that could make a use of the Mariner...

You never know...
