I know Apocalypse got me back into 40k. I had been out for over 5+ years. Gave away my army and everything (gave it to my favorite LGS so they could have a house army for people to use) Apocalypse was the catalyst for coming back. Even changed my theme/army. Used to play Iron Warriors and now I am slowly building a Death Guard army. (What can I say? I'm a minion of Chaos. Plus I always play the villain) :P

I’m curious, is there any hard evidence that 40k Apocalypse has had any real effect.

Hard evidence? Like stats? No. There almost never is.

I've talked to and seen posts from brick and mortar retailers that have talked about it increasing their sales and bringing in more gamers and I know all of the local 40K gamers have been all over the new game.

Granted, this view is certainly one of a local micro economy, but in our area at least Apocalypse has had a profound effect on rejuvenating 40K. Our LGS has gone from being dominated by Privateer Press games back to 40K in amazing number. Our LGS is nearly exclusively 40K players now with the remainder being a few Flames of War players.

I'm curious, is there any hard evidence that 40k Apocalypse has had any real effect. Locally it's been in the stores, but I haven't heard a lot about it at local gaming clubs.

Great choices. So hard to pick indeed!

I definitely agree with your statement about new game releases this year. There were so many strong ones, it is almost impossible to imagine not enjoying at least one of them this past year.

Excellent choices! Alot of the finalists were the ones I was expecting to see in several catagories.

Apocalypse was on the shortlist. But I didn't vote it higher simply because its impact is really not so much as a game itself but what it has done to the 40K game and hobby.

As a ruleset it is not a big deal, as a rejuvenating influence on 40K it is a big deal and we will be discussing that effect later.

Man, I love that Bommer. If Forge World ever make a 28mm version I'll be all over it.

I appreciate that there were a lot of GREAT new games and expansions that came out in 2007, but I'm surprised GW's Apocalypse did not make the cut. Not for it being a "new" game necessarily, but the potential impact that it may well have on the longevity of GW.
Still plenty of excellent (and tough!) choices in there for the Eds to mull over!
