2007 Reader’s Choice Game/Expansion voting round 1
We regret to inform you that due to suspicions of cheating and vote fraud in regards to the voting in both rounds of the 2007 TGN Reader’s Choice Awards that the staff of Tabletop Gaming News no longer feel comfortable with putting the TGN name to the results of these votes.
As such we are not going to be awarding any Reader’s Choice Awards this year. We are still working on the 2007 Editor’s Choice Award and will also be working on an article outlining some of our favourite releases from this year.
We’d like to thank all those people who submitted nominations and comments. And also those who only voted once. To those of you bragging about using an entire lab worth of computers to rig the voting, well thanks for screwing it all up for everyone. Hope you’re satisfied with the results of your actions.

Interesting that all those at the top of the list are fantasy/sci-fi sets and not historical ones. Is this down to TGN readers mainly being interested in fantasy or does ‘AT-43′ really have superior concepts. mechanics, playability and presentation of the rules than, say, ‘Wings of War’ or ‘Troops Weapons and Tactics’?
I would suspect, based on the various forums I visit, that even amongst historical gamers Troops Weapons and Tactics isn’t a well known ruleset
As well, I think the number of people that play AT-43 pretty much is only eclipsed by 40K. Almost everyone I know here locally plays it or is waiting for the Karmen to be released to join in the game.
That said, Too Fat Lardies don’t send us news and I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the readers here weren’t familiar with the game.
As well, people are going to vote for their favourite games and game systems. Based on that, something like Troops Weapons and Tactics isn’t going to do well in a vote like this.
I think the value in this to TFL is having some more visitors to their site and adding a bit of name familiarity with the product.
Going back to a comment that was made by Zac in defence of the “staff nominations” vs. “reader nominations” issue: the comment regarded newer releases attracting more votes than older ones. My personal experience here counters that regarding rules releases. Here I have two personal “favourites” that have been nominated: AT-43 and Tannhauser. I voted for AT-43 though simply because while Tannhauser excites me a little more, I haven’t had a chance to play it yet, while I have been playing AT-43 for many months now, so I _know_ it is a good system while I only _suspect_ Tannhauser is a good one.
On the other hand, when it comes to the taste for the “New Shiny” that prevails in this hobby, I can understand Zac’s experience that newer releases seem to get unfair preference over stuff that has been around for a few months and lost its gloss in the reader’s imagination!
Well its difficult for people to recall minis that were released 12 months ago. Its one of the reasons why movie studios release some types of movies closer to the end of the year so they are more prominent in people’s memories at nomination time.
Wow… Did Battletech fans just massively wake up? They almost outnumber the total number of voters in any other category…
There are a lot of them. Far, far more than people think. And they decided that despite not needing to top this vote that they wanted to win it.
It helps when people organize online :-)
I tried that, Zac, and all I got was a bunch of restraining orders . . .
I just went with the BT box as its IMHO by far the most impressive expo made this year
Its practically cheating that it isnt just a book but a box with maps/minis/rules
Count me as one of those BT fans, and a retailer to boot. If more companies would get their heads out of their arse, and produce insanely usable Intro products like this, I firmly believe our hobby would be a heckuva a lot stronger…
i cannot understand how to vote!
That is because voting ended for round 1 and we have started voting for round 2.
