  • 2007 Reader’s Choice Sci-fi voting round 1

We regret to inform you that due to suspicions of cheating and vote fraud in regards to the voting in both rounds of the 2007 TGN Reader’s Choice Awards that the staff of Tabletop Gaming News no longer feel comfortable with putting the TGN name to the results of these votes.

As such we are not going to be awarding any Reader’s Choice Awards this year. We are still working on the 2007 Editor’s Choice Award and will also be working on an article outlining some of our favourite releases from this year.

We’d like to thank all those people who submitted nominations and comments. And also those who only voted once. To those of you bragging about using an entire lab worth of computers to rig the voting, well thanks for screwing it all up for everyone. Hope you’re satisfied with the results of your actions.

a quick question-why wasn’t Cutter for infinity included? it had,if i counted right,4 votes total, quite a bit more than some of the other minis in this poll.

Man, I wish I saw the post for miniatures to vote on since Dark Age came out with so many other cool miniatures: Brood Scion, Brood Mandible, Skarrd Raze and Warhead resulpts both of which are done very well and a vast improvement on their previous sculpts, and the Dragyri Ice Elemental in blue resign which I belevive came out this year because it was delayed.

Something had to be cut or the list would have been too large to make any voting meaningful. As well we don’t want a single manufacturer to dominate the nominations and subsequent voting.

We did this last year as well but cut even more nominees to make the lists shorter. I left in far more nominees this year as I wanted to put as many of them in but if one company has four or five nominations in the final list I think it is unbalancing.

I don’t tend to pay attention to multiple nominations when doing the trimming since I assume that most people won’t nominate a figure more than once. We actually want to make sure that people don’t nominate the same mini more than once to make it easier to mange the process.

Voted Quar again, though there are a lot of good entrants

Thanks for making the nominations open and taking the time and effort to do this. At the risk of making Infinity fans seem like bitter whiners, impossible to please, it does seem odd that there’s no Cutter though, since it was also specifically mentioned in the first couple of reactions to the initial closed nomination vote…. Pretty sure it would have won (though I wouldn’t personally have voted for it) - though its non-inclusion makes the votes tighter so competition more exciting I suppose….

Cheers again - appreciate the effort!

    6. Drusus Geronimo Rat Esq says:

The Quar have always looked goofy WWI troops (in a good way) to me. Can’t go wrong with ‘em!

I don’t want to go into details but it wasn’t included and there isn’t any real way to go back on that so perhaps Infinity fans might want to be pleased with the number of nominations they did get and with how well the figures are doing currently.

    8. v22TTC says:

      Cheers Zac!

Re-reading the last part of my post, I can see how it might be misinterpreted - I meant that that will likely be the result and not necessarily intention. Let the ThermOptic TAG never again be mentioned! ;)

Can’t speak for anybody else really but:-

“perhaps Infinity fans might want to be pleased with the number of nominations they did get and with how well the figures are doing currently.”

Is definitely the vibe. Been the best gaming year I can remember, from loads of companies, so it’s all good….

Merry Season’s Greetings everyone (well, soon anyway), and the best of luck to whoever you vote for!

    9. did’nt i already vote twice?

    10. Zac says:

There were a large number of complaints that the nominations were not really “Reader’s Choice” and so we scrapped the old nominations that the staff at TGN put together and open nominations up.

We’re now voting on a list picked from those nominations.

    11. andrialfo says:

      We had nominate Cutter…

Where is it? I Think it is unfair. But you are right. You can do what you want. It is your web.

I want to vote for Cutter; and I will not vote for another miniature, from infinity or not…

Sorry you feel that this is somehow a hardship for you.

    13. andrialfo says:

      And it is…

I cannot vote for the best miniature if I do not think it is.

I can vote for the second or even the third…

I understand what should be your reasons for this kind of votes; and I recpect them. But I have reasons to defend what I think it is fair for the customers whom spend his money and time in the hobby, not for the firms or the webmasters… And if the title said “Reader´s Choice”, and I trusted in that.

Maybe is my fault to trust in the title…

      yay,Internet Drama:D
seriously.i also wanted cutter.it didn’t make it as the infinity fans posted half this year’s releases for nomination,so some had to be cut. happens(some might say it was “our” fault for being too trigger-happy),no real harm done, get over it in the end. jeesz…

    15. Markheim says:

I agree, P-ko, there’s no real harm done, but I can see why it is confusing. Of the Infinity figures, the Cutter had the most interest so it is confusing that it was chosen to be cut. If any figure were saved, I think I would want to save the most popular one.
As for being pleased with many nominations, it is nice, but this doesn’t mean much in the end as only one can win; so, I think most companies would like to put their best foot forward.
@v22TTC - It’s not whining, there’s no problem with asking “why” ;) . I think we are all passionate about figures and respect TGN for their materials, so there is no harm.
